   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0402 AM CST MON DEC 31 2007

   VALID 311200Z - 011200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR THE MTNS/INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SRN
   CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE FROM THE ROCKIES INTO THE PLAINS
THROUGH TONIGHT. IN THE WAKE OF THIS TROUGH...A BROAD AREA OF SFC
HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE GREAT BASIN/ROCKIES. THIS WILL
SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF OFFSHORE WINDS AND CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS ACROSS SRN CA. GUSTY NLY WINDS WILL ALSO OCCUR DOWN THE
LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY. FURTHER EAST BEHIND A COLD FRONT...BRISK NWLY
WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH LOW RH READINGS TO PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF NRN/CENTRAL TX.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - THE MTNS/VALLEYS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NELY WINDS FROM 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 50 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

AS SFC HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE GREAT BASIN...OFFSHORE WINDS
WILL DEVELOP THIS MORNING AND STRENGTHEN THROUGH THE PERIOD.
SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH WILL BE
POSSIBLE BY THIS AFTERNOON...WITH THE STRONGEST GUSTS EXPECTED
OVERNIGHT. LOW LEVEL SUBSIDENCE WILL SUPPORT LOWERING RH READINGS TO
BELOW 15 PERCENT BY THIS AFTERNOON OVER THE INTERIOR VALLEYS AND
MTNS OF SRN CA. THESE RH READINGS COMBINED WITH THE FORECAST WIND
SPEEDS WILL SUPPORT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS BY THIS
   AFTERNOON.

   ...NRN/CENTRAL TX...
BEHIND A COLD FRONT...NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL BE COMMONPLACE
ACROSS NRN/CENTRAL TX. ALTHOUGH THIS WILL INCREASE FIRE DANGER
ACROSS THE REGION...RELATIVELY COOL TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S AND
MARGINAL RH READINGS FROM 20-30 PERCENT WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL
   FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY...
A SUFFICIENTLY STRONG N-S PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL SUPPORT THE
DEVELOPMENT OF 15-25 MPH NLY WINDS TODAY. RELATIVELY COOL
TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S AND MIN RH READINGS FROM 15-20 PERCENT WILL
PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0404 AM CST MON DEC 31 2007

   VALID 011200Z - 021200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MTNS/INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SRN CA...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN/CENTRAL FL AND SRN GA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
ANOTHER DAY OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR OVER SRN
CA AS A LARGE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE SRN ROCKIES MAINTAINS A
MODEST PRESSURE GRADIENT. MODEST ENELY WINDS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE
OVER SRN AZ AS A RESULT OF THIS PRESSURE GRADIENT...HOWEVER CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE MET. FURTHER
EAST...AS THE STRONG UPPER TROUGH MOVES OFF THE EAST COAST...A COLD
FRONT WILL SHIFT SWD THROUGH THE GULF COAST EARLY IN THE PERIOD.
BEHIND THE FRONT...GUSTY NWLY WINDS WILL BE WIDESPREAD OVER SRN
PLAINS/SERN STATES. ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE REGION WILL SEE COLD
TEMPERATURES. WHERE TEMPERATURES WILL STILL REMAIN MILD ENOUGH TO
SUPPORT LOW RH READINGS...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WILL EXIST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MTNS/INTERIOR VALLEYS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED ENELY WINDS FROM 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 50 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT

ALTHOUGH SFC HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SWD INTO THE SRN ROCKIES
DURING THE DAY...A SUFFICIENTLY STRONG OFFSHORE GRADIENT WILL
SUPPORT ANOTHER DAY OF CRITICALLY STRONG WIND SPEEDS. COMBINED WITH
THESE WINDS...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT WILL BE WIDESPREAD
ACROSS INTERIOR PORTIONS OF SRN CA PRODUCING CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS. ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL DECREASE OVERNIGHT...THEY SHOULD
REMAIN SUFFICIENTLY STRONG /20-30 MPH/ IN WIND PRONE AREAS /PASSES
AND CANYONS/ TO SUPPORT A CONTINUATION OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   CONDITIONS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN/CENTRAL FLA...SRN GA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH...GUSTS UP
TO 25 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 25-35 PERCENT

BEHIND A STRONG COLD FRONT...A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL SUPPORT
NWLY WINDS FROM 15-25 MPH. ALTHOUGH MUCH COLDER AIR WILL FILTER SWD
THROUGH THE SERN STATES...THE COLDEST AIR WILL LAG THE INITIAL
FRONTAL PASSAGE. THEREFORE...THIS REGION WILL SEE TEMPERATURES
SUFFICIENTLY MILD /60-70F/ THAT COMBINED WITH DWPTS FALLING INTO THE
30S WILL SUPPORT MIN RH READINGS AVERAGING FROM 25-35 PERCENT.

   ...SRN AZ...
AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS SWD THROUGH THE SRN ROCKIES...A SUFFICIENTLY
STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL EXIST TO SUPPORT SUSTAINED ELY WINDS
FROM 15-20 MPH ACROSS THE AREA DURING THE PERIOD. RELATIVELY COOL
AND NEAR AVERAGE TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S COMBINED WITH RH READINGS
FROM 15-25 PERCENT WILL PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   CONDITIONS.

   ...SOUTH TX..
BEHIND A STRONG COLD FRONT...SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL BE
LIKELY /ESPECIALLY BEFORE 21Z/. NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE GIVEN LOW RH READINGS FROM 20-25 PERCENT.
