   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0347 AM CST SAT JAN 12 2008

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER FLOW OVER THE CONUS INCREASES IN AMPLITUDE TODAY AS A
BROAD UPPER TROUGH DEEPENS OVER THE CENTRAL U.S. AND AN UPPER RIDGE
BUILDS ALONG THE WEST COAST. SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS STRONG
OVER THE GREAT BASIN...LEADING TO OFFSHORE FLOW ACROSS CNTRL/SRN CA.
FARTHER E...A SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL ADVANCE INTO CNTRL TX BY MID
AFTERNOON...BRINGING DRIER AIR AND GUSTY NWLY WINDS TO MUCH OF CNTRL
AND SRN TX. A MODERATELY DRY AIRMASS COVERS THE SERN U.S. WITH
MINIMUM RH FALLING TO AROUND 30 TO 35 PERCENT OVER PORTIONS OF
MS/AL...BUT THE NLY SURFACE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE VERY LIGHT.

   ...SWRN/SCNTRL TX...
SURFACE WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 30 MPH THIS AFTERNOON AS A
SHORTWAVE TROUGH/MID LEVEL JET MAXIMUM MOVE ACROSS CNTRL TX.
AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE MIDDLE TO UPPER
60S...WHILE MINIMUM RH DIPS TO 10 TO 15 PERCENT. CONDITIONS WILL
THEREFORE APPROACH OR BRIEFLY EXCEED CRITICAL THRESHOLDS DURING THE
EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON...PARTICULARLY IN SCNTRL TX AROUND DEL RIO.
RAPID IMPROVEMENT IS THEN EXPECTED AFTER 00 UTC...AS SURFACE WINDS
SUBSIDE BELOW 15 MPH AND RH RISES ABOVE 20 PERCENT.

   ...SRN CA...
OFFSHORE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SRN CA TODAY AND TONIGHT...BUT
MINIMUM RH WILL REMAIN IN THE UPPER TEENS TO AROUND 20 PERCENT.
DESPITE THE GUSTY WINDS THROUGH THE COASTAL RANGE /NELY 15 TO 25
MPH/...THE RECENT RAINFALL AND MARGINAL HUMIDITY SHOULD PRECLUDE THE
   DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL CONDITIONS.

   VALID 131200Z - 141200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE BUILDS INTO THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST ON SUNDAY AS THE
UPPER TROUGH SHIFTS EWD TOWARD THE CNTRL/ERN HALF OF THE NATION. AT
THE SURFACE...HIGH PRESSURE STRENGTHENS OVER THE GREAT BASIN...
CAUSING THE OFFSHORE FLOW TO INCREASE ACROSS SRN CA. THE REMAINDER
OF THE NATION IS UNDER A MOSTLY DRY...COOL...AND RELATIVELY PLACID
   FIRE WEATHER PATTERN.

   ...SRN CA...
AS THE SURFACE HIGH STRENGTHENS OVER THE GREAT BASIN...THE OFFSHORE
PRESSURE GRADIENT INCREASES OVER SRN CA RESULTING IN NELY WINDS OF
15 TO 30 MPH ACROSS THE COASTAL MOUNTAINS. THE AIRMASS DOES NOT
APPEAR PARTICULARLY DRY THOUGH...WITH MINIMUM RH GENERALLY AT OR
   ABOVE 15 TO 20 PERCENT.
