   AS A PROGRESSIVE UPPER PATTERN PERSISTS...THE LAST DAY OF JANUARY
   WILL SEE A POTENT UPPER TROUGH ADVANCE FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TO
   THE OHIO/TENNESSEE VALLEYS BY EARLY FRIDAY. AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT
   WILL QUICKLY CROSS SOUTH/EAST TX AND THE GULF COAST STATES TODAY.
   SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE COMMON ACROSS THE GULF COAST
   REGION...WHILE STRONG/GUSTY POST-FRONTAL WINDS WILL LEAD TO A VERY
   HIGH FIRE DANGER ACROSS A LARGE PART OF TX. IN THE WEST...FAST
   WESTERLY UPPER FLOW WILL DOMINATE THE WESTERN HALF OF THE
   COUNTRY...WITH YET ANOTHER UPPER TROUGH REACHING THE WEST COAST THIS
   EVENING.

   CENTRAL TX...
   
   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH WITH LONG TERM
   DROUGHT
   
   AS A COLD FRONT EXITS SOUTHEAST TX EARLY TODAY...VERY STRONG/GUSTY
   NORTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT ACROSS MUCH OF
   TX. THE MOST PROLIFIC COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND MILD
   TEMPERATURES/LOW RH WILL EXIST TODAY ACROSS THE TX HILL COUNTRY AND
   SOUTH CENTRAL TX. WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING THE 60S...AMPLE
   VERTICAL MIXING COMBINED WITH STRONG WIND FIELDS ALOFT /80-100 KT AT
   500 MB AND 50+ KT AT 700 MB/ SUGGEST SUSTAINED NORTHWEST WINDS OF
   25-30 MPH WILL BE COMMON...WITH GUSTS OVER 40 MPH POSSIBLE UNTIL
   SUNSET. WIND DRIVEN FIRES WILL BE A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY TODAY...AND
   THE METEOROLOGICAL SITUATION WILL BE COMPOUNDED BY A LACK OF
   RAINFALL ACROSS THIS REGION OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS.

   SURROUNDING THE EXTREMELY CRITICAL RISK AREA...OVERALL CONDITIONS
   ARE EXPECTED TO BE RELATIVELY LESS SEVERE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
   TRANSPECOS REGION OF SOUTHWEST TX...AS WELL AS DEEP SOUTH TX AND FAR
   NORTH TX. THIS WILL BE THE CASE OWING TO EITHER COOLER TEMPERATURES
   AND/OR SOMEWHAT LIGHTER WIND SPEEDS. NEVERTHELESS...NORTHWEST WINDS
   OF 20-30 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 40 MPH WILL BE PREVALENT THROUGH THE

   GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL AGAIN DEVELOP FRIDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS
   PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST TX/FAR SOUTHWEST OK AS A LOW AMPLITUDE
   SHORTWAVE TROUGH CROSSES THE REGION...WITH MODEST SURFACE
   CYCLOGENESIS TAKING PLACE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS. WHILE NOT
   EXPECTED TO BE AS STRONG AS PRECEDING EVENTS EARLIER THIS WEEK...IT
   APPEARS THAT AT LEAST MARGINALLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
   WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TX PANHANDLE/TX SOUTH PLAINS
   INTO FAR SOUTHWEST OK. THE NORTH/NORTHEAST EXTENT OF THE CRITICAL
   RISK IS QUESTIONABLE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME SNOW ACROSS
   PORTIONS OF THE TX PANHANDLE/WESTERN OK ON THURSDAY...HOWEVER MOST
   AREAS IN THE CRITICAL OUTLOOK SHOULD SEE LITTLE IF ANY SNOWFALL.
   ALONG WITH MILD TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S AND LOW RH...SOUTHWEST WINDS
   OF 20-25 MPH ARE LIKELY...WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF 40 MPH GUSTS
   FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
