   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0357 AM CST WED FEB 20 2008

   VALID 201200Z - 211200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR A PORTION OF THE CAROLINAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE ERN CONUS THROUGH THE
PERIOD. EMBEDDED WITHIN THIS LARGE SCALE TROUGH A SMALLER SCALE
SYSTEM WILL MOVE EWD THROUGH THE ERN SEABOARD. ASSOCIATED WITH THIS
SYSTEM...MODERATE SFC WINDS WILL OCCUR OVER THE CAROLINAS AND THE
MID-ATLANTIC. MILD TEMPERATURES/LOW RH READINGS WILL COMBINE WITH
THESE WINDS TO SUPPORT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE
CAROLINAS. FURTHER WEST...ANOTHER UPPER SYSTEM IN THE SRN STREAM
WILL MOVE EWD FROM THE WEST COAST INTO THE SRN ROCKIES. AHEAD OF
THIS SYSTEM...WLY WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE SRN ROCKIES.
HOWEVER...MARGINAL WINDS/RH READINGS SHOULD PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CENTRAL/ERN NC...MUCH OF SC...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER
GUSTS...MIN RH READINGS AROUND 30 PERCENT...LONG TERM DROUGHT

AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH...A SFC COLD FRONT WILL MOVE SEWD
THROUGH THE CENTRAL/SRN APPALACHIANS THIS AFTERNOON. AHEAD OF THIS
FRONT...SWLY WIND FROM 15-20 MPH WILL DEVELOP TODAY. MILD
TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S WITH LOW DEWPTS IN THE 20S/30S WILL PRODUCE
RH READINGS AROUND 30 PERCENT. THE COMBINATION OF THESE PARAMETERS
WILL SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.

   ...SERN STATES...
SOUTH OF THE CRITICAL AREA...WEAKER MID LEVEL WINDS WILL CONTRIBUTE
TO WEAKER SUSTAINED SFC WINDS. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL AVERAGE
LESS THAN 15 MPH. HOWEVER...LOW RH READINGS FROM 25-35 PERCENT WILL
BE PREVALENT OVER MOST OF THE REGION.

   ...SERN NM/SWRN TX...
AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH DIGGING THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN/SRN
ROCKIES...WLY WINDS FROM 15-25 MPH ARE EXPECTED ESPECIALLY OVER THE
HIGHER TERRAIN. RELATIVELY MILD TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S WILL SUPPORT
MIN RH READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT. GIVEN THE MARGINAL NATURE OF THE
WINDS...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED.

OVER 50 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT
