   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0359 AM CST FRI FEB 22 2008

   VALID 221200Z - 231200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN ACTIVE SRN STREAM WILL BE PRESENT OVER THE CONUS DURING THE
PERIOD. ONE UPPER TROUGH EMBEDDED WITHIN THIS PATTERN WILL MOVE INTO
THE GREAT BASIN/SWRN STATES THROUGH THE PERIOD. ALTHOUGH GUSTY WLY
WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON OVER THE SWRN STATES/SRN HIGH
PLAINS...MARGINAL RH READINGS WILL PRECLUDE ANY CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER CONCERNS. ELSEWHERE...MOIST PATTERN ASSOCIATED WITH ANOTHER
SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL CONTINUE OVER THE SERN/MID-ATLANTIC REGION
   PRECLUDING ANY FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.

   ...SRN HIGH PLAINS...
AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING INTO THE GREAT BASIN THIS
AFTERNOON...GUSTY WLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER SRN
NM/WRN TX. WITH WEAKER DOWNSLOPE FLOW...SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES
COMBINED WITH THE WEAKER WINDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
THREAT. WINDS WILL LIKELY INCREASE IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN OVERNIGHT
AS THE UPPER TROUGH APPROACHES AIDING IN POOR RH RECOVERY.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0400 AM CST FRI FEB 22 2008

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR THE SRN HIGH PLAINS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
ASSOCIATED WITH THE PASSAGE OF A SEASONABLY STRONG SHORTWAVE
TROUGH...WLY WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER THE SRN HIGH PLAINS TOMORROW.
IN ADDITION TO THE WINDS...LOW RH READINGS WILL SUPPORT A CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER THREAT. EAST OF THIS SYSTEM...DRIER AIR WILL FILTER
INTO THE SERN STATES IN THE WAKE OF THE FIRST SHORTWAVE TROUGH.
HOWEVER...MIN RH READINGS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO REACH CRITICAL LEVELS.
ANOTHER STRONGER UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO THE CA
COAST...PROVIDING FOR MORE RAIN/SNOW TO MUCH OF CA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF WRN TX/ERN NM...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED WLY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP
TO 30 MPH...MIN RH READINGS FROM 10-15 PERCENT

ASSOCIATED WITH THE PASSAGE OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH...COOLING MID
LEVEL TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH DOWNSLOPE FLOW WILL SUPPORT STEEP
LAPSE RATES THROUGH THE LOW-MID LEVELS. THIS WILL AID IN AN INCREASE
IN WLY FLOW OVER WRN TX/ERN NM TOMORROW WITH GUSTS OVER 30 MPH. LOW
RH READINGS ARE EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF THE TX SOUTH PLAINS/SWRN TX
AND ERN NM...AS MUCH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN THE 70-80 DEG F
RANGE COMBINE WITH DEWPTS IN THE 10S LEADING TO A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

...CENTRAL TX NWD INTO SWRN/SCENTRAL OK...
AS SFC LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER CENTRAL OK DURING THE PERIOD...SLY
WINDS WILL INCREASE TO BETWEEN 15-25 MPH. DESPITE ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES RETURNING MOISTURE WILL LIKELY AID IN MIN RH READINGS
ABOVE 30 PERCENT. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE WEST OVER SWRN OK/NWRN TX
DURING THE MID-LATE AFTERNOON WITH THE PASSAGE OF A DRYLINE/LEE
TROUGH WITH FALLING RH READINGS EXPECTED. HOWEVER LIMITED DURATION
OF LOW RH READINGS IN THIS AREA SHOULD PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.
