   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0216 AM CST THU FEB 28 2008

   VALID 281200Z - 291200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR WEST CENTRAL TX AND FAR SWRN OK...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A MID/UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH /EVIDENT ON LATEST WV IMAGERY/
WILL AMPLIFY SEWD FROM THE CANADIAN PRAIRIE PROVINCES INTO THE UPPER
MIDWEST THROUGH EARLY FRI. AN ATTENDANT WEAK SURFACE CYCLONE IS
FCST TO MOVE EWD ACROSS THE SRN PORTIONS OF THE PRAIRIE PROVINCES BY
29/00Z...WITH A SURFACE TROUGH DRAPED SWD ACROSS THE PLAINS. S/SWLY
LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL STRENGTHEN BETWEEN THE TROUGH AND ERN CONUS
   RIDGE AXIS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - WEST CENTRAL TX AND FAR SWRN OK...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / HIGH KBDI

A LEE TROUGH WILL MOVE S AND E ACROSS THE SRN HIGH PLAINS DURING THE
DAY1 PERIOD. STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP FARTHER E WHERE THE SURFACE
PRESSURE GRADIENT IS TIGHTEST ACROSS CNTRL AND ERN TX/OK. A WARM
AND VERY DRY AIR MASS...PER SAMPLING OF 28/00Z AMA/MAF RAOBS...WILL
REMAIN ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE SRN HIGH PLAINS WITHIN A CONTINUED
DOWNSLOPE FLOW REGIME. AS TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE LOWER TO
MIDDLE 70S...RH VALUES WILL LIKELY FALL INTO THE TEENS. MODEL
GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT A MINIMUM AXIS OF LOW RH WILL EXTEND FROM SW
TX AND THE TX SOUTH PLAINS REGION NEWD. THUS THE CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER THREAT APPEARS TO BE MOST PROBABLE IN AN AREA WHERE THE
JUXTAPOSITION OF LOW RH AND STRONG WINDS /SUSTAINED FROM 20 TO 25
MPH/...SHOULD BECOME MOST PRONOUNCED FROM SJT TO LTS.
