   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0319 AM CDT WED APR 23 2008

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR FAR SRN NV/SERN CA EWD INTO SWRN
   TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD UPPER TROUGH WILL STRETCH FROM THE PACIFIC COAST EWD INTO
THE HIGH PLAINS. AT THE SURFACE...LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN OVER ERN
WY WITH A PRESSURE TROUGH EXTENDING SWD INTO ERN NM/W TX BY
AFTERNOON. STRONG WINDS WILL MIX TO THE SURFACE BENEATH THIS UPPER
   TROUGH...FROM SRN NV/SERN CA EWD ACROSS NRN AZ...SRN UT...SRN
CO...NM AND SWRN TX. MEANWHILE...A HIGH PRESSURE CENTER WILL BE
OVER THE GREAT LAKES...WITH AXIS EXTENDING SEWD INTO THE MID
ATLANTIC STATES. AN ENHANCED PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN THIS HIGH AND
AN UPPER LOW OFF THE SERN U.S. COAST WILL ENHANCE NLY WINDS OVER THE
SERN STATES...WITH MODERATELY LOW RH FOR THE SRN FL PENINSULA. WINDY
AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL ALSO EXIST ACROSS THE UPPER MIDWEST...BUT
   FUELS REMAIN RELATIVELY MOIST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FAR SRN NV/SERN CA EWD INTO SWRN
   TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY

WIND FIELDS WILL STRENGTHEN OVER THE REGION AS AN UPPER TROUGH
SPREADS EWD. IN GENERAL...SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS NEAR 20 MPH CAN BE
EXPECTED WITH GUSTS OVER 30 MPH. AFTERNOON RH WILL DIP TO NEAR 10%
AREAWIDE...WITH VALUES AS LOW AS 3-5% OVER CNTRL AND SRN NM W OF THE
   DRYLINE.

   ...SRN FL...
NLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 15 MPH TODAY DUE TO AN UPPER LOW
JUST OFF THE SERN U.S. COAST. A MODERATELY DRY AIR MASS REMAINS
ACROSS THE REGION WITH HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED FROM THE MID ATLANTIC
INTO THE GREAT LAKES. DAYTIME HEATING WILL THUS RESULT IN MODERATELY
LOW RH VALUES...MAINLY ACROSS INTERIOR S FL...INTO THE 30% RANGE.

   ...NM/WI/IA...
STRONG SELY WINDS OF 10-20 MPH WILL BLOW OUT OF A SURFACE HIGH
CENTERED OVER THE GREAT LAKES. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM INTO THE 70S
AND RH WILL DIP INTO THE TEENS AND 20% RANGE. HOWEVER...FUEL
CONDITIONS ARE NOT FAVORABLE FOR A SIGNIFICANT FIRE THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0323 AM CDT WED APR 23 2008

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NM...WRN TX...SERN CO AND OK
   PANHANDLE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER TROUGH AXIS WILL SHIFT EWD INTO THE CNTRL ROCKIES THU
AFTERNOON...WITH A WIDE BELT OF MODERATE SWLY FLOW ALOFT SPREADING
INTO THE PLAINS STATES. SURFACE LOW WILL DEEPEN OVER SERN CO/SWRN
KS...WITH WARM AND WINDY CONDITIONS FROM NM EWD INTO W TX WHERE A
DRYLINE WILL EXIST. TO THE W...COOLER AIR WILL SPREAD SWD THROUGH
THE GREAT BASIN WITH HIGH PRESSURE...BUT LOW RH WILL REMAIN.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE INTO NEW ENGLAND BEHIND A COLD
FRONT...RESULTING IN INCREASED WINDS AND LOWERING RH. GENERALLY DRY
AND MILD CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST TO THE S OVER THE MID ATLANTIC
WHERE ANOTHER AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE CENTERED.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NM...WRN TX...SERN CO AND OK
   PANHANDLE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS...VERY LOW RH

STRONG HEATING AND MIXING WILL CREATE WARM WINDY AND DRY WEATHER AS
LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER ERN CO AND UPPER TROUGH AXIS APPROACHES.
SWLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH HIGHER GUSTS...ALONG WITH
VERY LOW RH IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO LOWER TEENS. THE CRITICAL FIRE
THREAT WILL SPREAD FARTHER E INTO WRN TX...AND EWD EXTENT WILL
LIKELY BE ADJUSTED AS THE EVENT NEARS. MULTIPLE WINDY AND DRY DAYS
COMBINED WITH THE EXTREMELY LOW RH LEVELS WILL RESULT IN LOCALLY
   EXTREME FIRE DANGER.

   ...NEW ENGLAND...
NWLY WINDS WILL BRING DRIER AIR INTO THE REGION IN A POST FRONTAL
REGIME. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO RISE INTO THE 60S AND LOWER 70S
OVER SRN NEW ENGLAND...WITH MIN RH VALUES INTO THE 20-25% RANGE. THE
COMBINATION OF LOW HUMIDITY ALONG WITH NWLY WINDS NEAR 15 MPH COULD
RESULT IN CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS. ONE MITIGATING FACTOR WILL BE
HOW MUCH FUELS GET MOISTENED BY EXPECTED PRECIPITATION ON WED. IF
ENOUGH RAIN FALLS...A CRITICAL FIRE THREAT MAY BE AVOIDED.
ALSO...WIND SPEEDS APPEAR A BIT MARGINAL FOR A SIGNIFICANT THREAT AT
   THIS TIME.
