   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0341 AM CDT THU MAY 08 2008

   VALID 081200Z - 091200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MOST OF NM/PORTIONS OF WRN TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH WILL DEAMPLIFY AS
IT PROGRESSES NEWD TOWARDS THE CNTRL APPALACHIANS. A SERIES OF
LOW-AMPLITUDE UPPER-LEVEL IMPULSES FROM THE NRN ROCKIES TO THE
SOUTHWEST WILL EJECT EWD REACHING THE CNTRL CONUS BY EARLY FRI. AT
THE SURFACE...A LEE CYCLONE WILL BECOME CENTERED INVOF TX/OK
   PANHANDLES THIS AFTERNOON.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MOST OF NM/PORTIONS OF WRN TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

GRADUALLY INCREASING MID-LEVEL WLYS /AS SAMPLED BY AZTEC NM
PROFILER/ WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON IN ASSOCIATION WITH A
WEAK UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH EJECTING EWD FROM THE SRN GREAT
BASIN/SOUTHWEST. WITH 500 MB WINDS EXPECTED TO REACH 50 TO 60 MPH
THIS AFTERNOON...DEEP MIXING WILL SUPPORT SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS OF
20 TO 30 MPH. AS TEMPERATURES WARM GENERALLY INTO THE 70S/80S...RH
VALUES WILL PLUMMET TO AROUND 6 TO 12 PERCENT.

   ...INTERIOR PORTIONS OF NRN FL...
LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL STRENGTHEN AND VEER IN RESPONSE TO SHORT WAVE
TROUGH MOVING ACROSS THE OH/TN RIVER VALLEY TODAY. THIS WILL RESULT
IN SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS AROUND 15 MPH AND A GRADUAL ADVECTION OF
RICHER MOISTURE FROM THE ERN GULF /WHERE SURFACE DEW POINTS ARE
CURRENTLY IN THE LOWER 70S/. NEVERTHELESS...A MODEST DURATION OF
MARGINALLY LOW RH /NEAR 35 PERCENT/ SHOULD DEVELOP DURING THE EARLY
AFTERNOON AS TEMPERATURES REACH THE UPPER 80S.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0451 AM CDT THU MAY 08 2008

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN AND ERN AZ/FAR SRN UT/WRN AND
   CNTRL NM/FAR WRN TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH WILL DIG ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW...REACHING THE
NRN ROCKIES AND GREAT BASIN BY EARLY SAT. A LOW AMPLITUDE SRN STREAM
IMPULSE OFF THE BAJA CA COAST SHOULD EJECT NEWD TOWARDS THE LOWER CO
RIVER VALLEY. AT THE SURFACE...LOW PRESSURE WILL BECOME CENTERED
OVER SERN CO FRI AFTERNOON...WHILE A COLD FRONT SETTLES SWD INTO THE
   CNTRL/SRN GREAT BASIN.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN AND ERN AZ/FAR SRN UT/WRN AND
   CNTRL NM/FAR WRN TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

A BROAD SWATH OF MODERATELY STRONG MID-LEVEL W/SWLYS WILL OVERSPREAD
MUCH OF THE SRN ROCKIES AND SRN GREAT BASIN. DEEP MIXING WILL
PROMOTE SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS AVERAGING 20 TO 25 MPH AROUND PEAK
HEATING. THIS WILL BE JUXTAPOSED WITH WIDESPREAD LOW RH VALUES OF 8
TO 15 PERCENT. MODEL GUIDANCE DOES SUGGEST UPPER-LEVEL CLOUDINESS
ASSOCIATED WITH A SRN STREAM IMPULSE SHOULD HINDER INSOLATION AND
LIKEWISE VERTICAL MIXING TO SOME EXTENT INVOF THE NRN MEXICO BORDER.
DESPITE THIS...THE MOST INTENSE MID-LEVEL FLOW WILL LIKELY BE
CENTERED ACROSS THIS REGION...AND THUS STRONG SURFACE WINDS SHOULD
   STILL DEVELOP.
