   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0401 AM CDT SAT MAY 24 2008

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN NM/SERN CO/SWRN KS/WRN OK AND
   TX PANHANDLES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
HIGHLY AMPLIFIED UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN WILL FEATURE TROUGHS OVER THE
WRN AND ERN CONUS WITH A RIDGE CENTERED ACROSS THE MS RIVER VALLEY.
A SIGNIFICANT SHORT WAVE TROUGH /NOW OVER NEB PANHANDLE PER WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY/...WILL LIFT NWD THROUGH THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. PRIMARY
SURFACE CYCLONE WILL PARALLEL THIS TRACK WITH AN ATTENDANT OCCLUDED
FRONT LAYING SEWD TO A TRIPLE POINT IN CNTRL NEB. A DRYLINE WILL BE
DRAPED SWD FROM THE TRIPLE POINT LOW THROUGH THE GREAT PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN NM/SERN CO/SWRN KS/WRN OK AND
   TX PANHANDLES...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / DROUGHT

AS THE NRN/CNTRL HIGH PLAINS SHORT WAVE TROUGH MOVES NWD...THE BELT
OF INTENSE MID-LEVEL SWLYS WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN AND SHIFT FROM THE
SRN ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS TO THE CNTRL ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS THROUGH
EARLY SUN. THIS WILL RESULT IN A CORRESPONDING NWD DISPLACEMENT OF
CRITICAL CONDITIONS COMPARED TO FRI DESPITE PREVALENT LOW RH OVER
MUCH OF THE SRN HIGH PLAINS. THE NERN EXTENT OF THE THREAT INTO WRN
KS WILL BE LIMITED BY RECENT SUBSTANTIAL RAINFALL.

WITHIN THE CRITICAL AREA...SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS WILL REACH 20 TO
25 MPH FOR A FEW HOURS AROUND PEAK HEATING. TEMPERATURES WARMING
INTO THE UPPER 70S TO NEAR 90 WILL LEAD TO RH VALUES FALLING TO
   AROUND 10 TO 15 PERCENT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR S-CNTRL TO NERN NM/SERN CO...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE MS RIVER VALLEY WILL DEAMPLIFY AS A
CLOSED LOW OVER THE NRN PLAINS OPENS AND GRADUALLY PHASES WITH
LARGER-SCALE TROUGH DIGGING SWD IN ERN CANADA. FARTHER WEST...A
SHORT WAVE TROUGH WILL ROUND THE BROADER WRN CONUS TROUGH...MOVING
NEWD THROUGH THE LOWER CO VALLEY TOWARDS THE FOUR CORNERS.

   CO.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - S-CNTRL TO NERN NM/SERN CO...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

A SWATH OF MODERATELY STRONG MID-LEVEL SWLYS WILL CONTINUE
DOWNSTREAM OF WRN CONUS UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH. WITH A LEE SURFACE
CYCLONE STRENGTHENING OVER SERN CO...SUSTAINED WINDS FROM 20 TO 30
MPH APPEAR LIKELY DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON FROM NEAR THE LOW SWWD
THROUGH THE SRN ROCKIES. THIS WILL BE JUXTAPOSED WITH LOW RH VALUES
OF 10 TO 15 PERCENT. SIGNIFICANT UNCERTAINTY EXISTS WITH THE ERN
EXTENT OF THE CRITICAL THREAT DUE TO GREAT VARIATION IN MODEL
   GUIDANCE DEPICTION OF DRYLINE PLACEMENT.
