   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0353 AM CDT SUN MAY 25 2008

   VALID 251200Z - 261200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MOST OF CNTRL AND ERN NM/SERN
CO/FAR WRN OK AND TX PANHANDLES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE MS RIVER VALLEY WILL DEAMPLIFY AS A
CLOSED LOW OVER THE NRN HI PLAINS OPENS AND GRADUALLY PHASES WITH
LARGER-SCALE TROUGH DIGGING SWD FROM HUDSON BAY. EXPANSIVE SURFACE
HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE LOWER GREAT LAKES WILL SLIDE SEWD ACROSS THE
MID-ATLANTIC. BROAD WRN CONUS TROUGH SHOULD SLOWLY SHIFT INLAND AS A
SHORT WAVE OFF THE SRN CA COAST ROUNDS THE BASE OF THE TROUGH AND
APPROACHES THE FOUR CORNERS. DOWNSTREAM LEE CYCLONE WILL DEEPEN OVER
SERN CO WITH ATTENDANT DRYLINE EXTENDING SWD THROUGH THE SRN HIGH
   PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MOST OF CNTRL AND ERN NM/SERN CO/FAR
   WRN OK AND TX PANHANDLES...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

ALTHOUGH MID-LEVEL SWLYS WILL BE WEAKER TODAY COMPARED TO
SAT...STRENGTHENING SURFACE LOW PRESSURE INVOF LOWER ARKANSAS RIVER
VALLEY IN CO WILL COMPENSATE AND MAINTAIN STRONG WINDS ACROSS
PORTIONS OF THE SRN ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS. SUSTAINED SPEEDS WILL
LIKELY REACH 20 TO 30 MPH DURING THE AFTERNOON. AS TEMPERATURES WARM
MAINLY INTO THE 80S TO LOWER 90S...RH VALUES WILL FALL TO BETWEEN 8
AND 15 PERCENT. AN ABRUPT TRANSITION TO SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WILL OCCUR NEAR THE ERN EDGE OF THE CRITICAL AREA
FROM SWRN KS THROUGH FAR SERN NM...ALONG THE EXPECTED LOCATION OF
THE DRY LINE IN THE LATE AFTERNOON.

...ERN PANHANDLE AND WRN PORTIONS OF NRN FL...
A COLD FRONT PASSAGE SAT EVENING HAS RESULTED IN N/NELY LOW-LEVEL
FLOW LENDING TO SIGNIFICANT BOUNDARY LAYER DRYING TODAY. A
SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE IN GPS PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES HAS ALREADY
BEEN ILLUSTRATED EARLY THIS MORNING ACROSS GA/NRN FL. TEMPERATURES
WARMING TO BETWEEN 85 TO 90 SHOULD LEAD TO RH VALUES FALLING TO
AROUND 30 TO 35 PERCENT. WITH SURFACE RIDGE AXIS EXPECTED TO LIE
ACROSS THE REGION...AN INNOCUOUS PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL LIKELY LIMIT
   SUSTAINED WINDS BELOW 15 MPH.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0449 AM CDT SUN MAY 25 2008

   VALID 261200Z - 271200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MOST OF CNTRL AND ERN NM/FAR SERN
CO/FAR WRN OK AND TX PANHANDLES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
WRN CONUS UPPER-LEVEL SHORT WAVE TROUGH SHOULD WEAKEN AS IT
PROGRESSES NEWD FROM THE SRN GREAT BASIN TO THE CNTRL ROCKIES...AS
AN UPSTREAM TROUGH AMPLIFIES OFF THE W COAST. LEE CYCLONE WILL
REMAIN ANCHORED INVOF FAR SERN CO THROUGH MON AFTERNOON...PRIOR TO
WEAKENING AS IT TRACKS EWD ALONG FRONTAL ZONE THAT WILL BE GRADUALLY
SINKING SWD ACROSS THE CNTRL INTO THE SRN PLAINS. DRYLINE ATTENDANT
TO THE LEE LOW WILL BE DRAPED SWD THROUGH THE SRN HIGH PLAINS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MOST OF CNTRL AND ERN NM/FAR SERN
CO/FAR WRN OK AND TX PANHANDLES...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / VERY LOW RH / LONG-TERM DRYNESS

OVERALL SYNOPTIC REGIME SHOULD BE SIMILAR TO DAY 1 LEADING TO A
CONTINUED CRITICAL THREAT ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE SRN ROCKIES/HIGH
PLAINS. DEEPLY MIXED THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES WILL AGAIN SUPPORT
AFTERNOON SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS FROM 20 TO 30 MPH. ONE CHANGE FROM
DAY 1 SHOULD BE THE ENHANCEMENT OF DOWNSLOPE WARMING/DRYING GIVEN
THE PREVAILING SWLY FLOW REGIME. TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY WARM INTO
THE 90S AT LOWER ELEVATIONS WITH 80S IN HIGHER TERRAIN. MODEL
GUIDANCE FORECASTS ARE CONSISTENT WITH DROPPING RH VALUES TO AROUND
4 TO 8 PERCENT. A SHARP CUTOFF TO THE NRN/ERN EXTENT OF THE CRITICAL
THREAT IS EXPECTED...NEAR THE SURFACE LOW AND ASSOCIATED
W/E-ORIENTED FRONTAL ZONE IN SERN CO/SWRN KS...AND DRYLINE MIXING
   INTO THE WRN PANHANDLES.
