   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0333 AM CDT THU MAY 29 2008

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN AZ...SERN UT...MUCH OF
CO...WRN AND NRN NM...FAR SWRN KS AND WRN OK/TX PANHANDLES...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VERY WARM AND DRY AIR MASS WILL RESIDE OVER THE SRN PLAINS AND SRN
ROCKIES AS A LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER TROUGH BREAKS DOWN THE RIDGE.
STRONG WINDS WILL RESULT FROM AZ NEWD INTO CO/KS...ALONG WITH LOW
HUMIDITY. TO THE E...WINDS WILL INCREASE OVER NEW ENGLAND IN
ASSOCIATION WITH A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH. THE WIND AND LOW RH MAY
RESULT IN MARGINAL FIRE CONDITIONS THERE.

ELSEWHERE...IT WILL REMAIN MODERATELY DRY OVER FL...WITH WARM
   TEMPERATURES AND EAST WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN AZ...SERN UT...MUCH OF CO...WRN
AND NRN NM...FAR SWRN KS AND WRN OK/TX PANHANDLES...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL JET WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION TODAY WITH A
SURFACE LOW DEEPENING OVER ERN CO/WRN KS. STRONG WINDS WILL BE
WIDESPREAD AS A RESULT. GIVEN A VERY WARM AND DRY AIR MASS ALREADY
IN PLACE...MIN RH LEVELS FROM THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS TO LOWER TEENS
WILL RESULT...ESPECIALLY OVER AZ AND NM. HIGHER VALUES INTO THE
15-20 PERCENT RANGE ARE LIKELY OVER WRN KS AND THE OK/TX
PANHANDLES...BUT WINDS WILL BE HIGHEST THERE...FROM 30-40 MPH.
SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUST ARE LIKELY TO OCCUR
OVER AZ/UT/WRN CO/WRN NM. PORTIONS OF ERN NM...AS WELL AS E CNTRL
CO...HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE CRITICAL AREA DUE TO RECENT HEAVY
   PRECIPITATION TRACKS INDICATED BY RADAR.

   ...ERN NY INTO NEW ENGLAND...
NEAR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS WILL EXIST TODAY DUE TO LOW RH AND
STRONG WINDS...BUT FUEL CONDITIONS/GREENUP SUGGEST THE THREAT WILL
BE LIMITED. WLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH HIGHER GUSTS AS
A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH MOVES THROUGH. MIN RH WILL DIP INTO THE 20
PERCENT RANGE...AND THIS WILL ENHANCE THE THREAT OF FIRE STARTS
   WHERE FUELS ARE DRIEST.

   ...SRN PLAINS...
WINDS WILL INCREASE IN RESPONSE TO LOWER PRESSURE TO THE N.
SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR OVER MUCH
OF KS...WRN OK...AND NWRN TX. HOWEVER...RH LEVELS SHOULD REMAIN
ABOVE CRITICAL THRESHOLDS...AND MAINLY IN THE 25-35 PERCENT RANGE.
NONETHELESS...ANY FIRES THAT MAY START COULD GET OUT OF CONTROL DUE
   TO STRONG WINDS.

   ...FL...
IT WILL AGAIN BE WARM AND RELATIVELY DRY TODAY WITH ELY WINDS OUT OF
THE WRN ATLANTIC HIGH. A FEW HOURS OF MIN RH NEAR 35 PERCENT WILL BE
LIKELY INLAND CNTRL AND NRN FL.
