   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0400 AM CDT MON JUN 30 2008

   VALID 301200Z - 011200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SERN ORE/NWRN NV/FAR NERN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
HIGHLY AMPLIFIED UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN WILL PERSIST WITH A LARGE-SCALE
RIDGE CENTERED OVER THE ROCKIES AND A TROUGH IN THE EAST. A SHORT
WAVE TROUGH OFF THE CNTRL CA COAST WILL SHIFT NEWD INTO THE PACIFIC
NW/NRN GREAT BASIN BY EARLY TUE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SERN ORE/NWRN NV/FAR NERN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCATTERED DRY TSTMS / DROUGHT

ASCENT ATTENDANT TO AN APPROACHING SHORT WAVE TROUGH WILL BE
FAVORABLY TIMED WITH THE DIURNAL HEATING CYCLE LIKELY RESULTING IN
AT LEAST SCATTERED HIGH-BASED TSTMS ATOP A DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY
LAYER. PRE-STORM SURFACE RH VALUES WILL LIKELY DROP TO 10 TO 15
PERCENT. ENVIRONMENTAL MEAN WINDS AROUND 30 TO 40 MPH SUGGEST
MODERATELY FAST STORM MOTIONS WILL SUPPORT LITTLE WETTING RAIN WITH
PW VALUES NEAR A HALF-INCH. GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS ARE EXPECTED ALONG
WITH POTENTIAL FOR A NUMBER OF DRY LIGHTNING IGNITIONS.

...ERN GREAT BASIN INTO NRN AZ...
ON THE NWRN EXTENT OF SEASONABLY RICH LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE OVER THE
SRN ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS...STRONG DAYTIME HEATING AND OROGRAPHIC
FORCING WILL RESULT IN ISOLATED TO SCATTERED HIGH-BASED TSTMS WITH
DEEPLY-MIXED INVERTED-V THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES. THE PROXIMITY OF A
MID/UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE AXIS WILL LIMIT STORM MOTION AND OVERALL DRY
   TSTM COVERAGE.

...ERN SLOPES OF THE WA CASCADES...
ALTHOUGH SCATTERED TSTMS SHOULD DEVELOP LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND
   EVENING...HIGHER PW VALUES /AROUND 0.75 TO 1 INCH/ COMPARED TO
CRITICAL AREA FARTHER SW...WILL BE LESS FAVORABLE FOR SIGNIFICANT
COVERAGE OF DRY TSTMS. AFTERNOON SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN THE 90S TO
AROUND 100 WILL RESULT IN PRE-STORM RH VALUES OF 15 TO 20 PERCENT.
INITIAL CONVECTION MAY BE DRY GIVEN INVERTED-V TYPE THERMODYNAMIC
PROFILES. HOWEVER...SIGNIFICANT MODEL QPF SIGNALS SUGGEST A
TRANSITION TO WETTING RAIN APPEARS PROBABLE.

   ...CNTRL/SRN NV...
SLY LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL STRENGTHEN IN RESPONSE TO THE APPROACH OF
THE ERN PACIFIC SHORT WAVE TROUGH. ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL REMAIN
MODERATE THROUGHOUT THE BOUNDARY LAYER...SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS
SHOULD BRIEFLY REACH 20 MPH WITH RH VALUES OF 7 TO 10 PERCENT AT
   PEAK HEATING.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0442 AM CDT MON JUN 30 2008

   VALID 011200Z - 021200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN OVER THE CONUS WILL DEAMPLIFY ON TUE. ERN CONUS
TROUGH WILL LIFT NEWD AS AN UPSTREAM TROUGH DIGS OVER S-CNTRL
CANADA. A PACIFIC NW/NRN GREAT BASIN SHORT WAVE WILL GRADUALLY
WEAKEN AS IT MOVES EWD AND TOPS THE ROCKIES RIDGE AXIS.

...ERN GREAT BASIN TO AZ MOGOLLON RIM...
SIMILAR TO THE DAY 1...ISOLATED TO SCATTERED HIGH-BASED TSTMS WILL
DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON ON THE WRN EXTENT OF RICHER
BOUNDARY-LAYER MOISTURE. PRIMARY FORCING MECHANISMS SHOULD AGAIN BE
THE COMBINATION OF OROGRAPHIC LIFT AND STRONG DIURNAL HEATING. THE
CONTINUED PRESENCE OF MID/UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE AXIS WILL LIMIT STORM
MOTIONS AND OVERALL DRY TSTM COVERAGE. A FEW LIGHTNING-INDUCED
IGNITIONS ALONG WITH GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE.
