   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN NV...WRN UT...SERN ID...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL BREAK DOWN NRN PORTIONS OF THE RIDGE
FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO ID/MT. STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH WILL CREATE
CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS FOR MUCH OF THE ERN GREAT BASIN. FARTHER
N...NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORM WILL OCCUR OVER WRN MT...AND SOME WILL BE
DRY FROM SWRN MT SWD INTO WRN WY. MORE ISOLATED DRY STORM ACTIVITY
WILL OCCUR OVER ERN UT...WRN CO...AND NRN AZ. GENERALLY HOT AND DRY
WEATHER WILL PERSIST FOR CA AND AZ AS WELL.

FARTHER E...A FRONTAL ZONE WILL STRETCH FROM SRN NEW ENGLAND INTO
THE LOWER MS VALLEY AND SRN PLAINS WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
ALONG IT. HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN OVER THE UPPER MS VALLEY AND
GREAT LAKES...WITH COOL AND DRY WEATHER THERE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN NV...WRN UT...SERN ID...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS...LOW RH...UNSTABLE LOWER
   ATMOSPHERE

IT WILL REMAIN HOT AND DRY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT WILL STRETCH
FROM SRN ID ACROSS NV. MIN RH IN THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS AND LOWER
TEENS WILL BE COMMON ALONG WITH INCREASING WINDS OF 20-30 MPH.
STRONG GUSTS ARE LIKELY ESPECIALLY LATE AFTERNOON WHEN VERTICAL
MIXING IS MAXIMIZED. A HIGH HAINES INDEX WILL ALSO BE IN
PLACE...FURTHER ADDING TO THE POTENTIAL FOR FIRE GROWTH.

IN ADDITION...A SLIGHT UPSLOPE COMPONENT TO THE WIND ALONG WITH THE
APPROACHING UPPER TROUGH AND ENOUGH MOISTURE WILL RESULT IN ISOLATED
DRY STORMS OVER THE MTS OF UT AND WRN WY. ALTHOUGH ISOLATED...ANY
STRIKES MAY RESULT IN NEW FIRES.

   ...ERN ID...SWRN MT...
WARM AND DRY WEATHER WILL OCCUR AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT THIS
AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES WELL INTO THE 90S AND RH IN THE TEENS.
STRONG CONVECTIVE INSTABILITY WILL DEVELOP DURING THE DAY AS AN
UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH BREAKS DOWN THE UPPER RIDGE. NUMEROUS
THUNDERSTORMS WILL RESULT...MANY WILL HAVE VERY STRONG WINDS AS WELL
AS HAIL AND RAIN. MOST OF THE STORMS WILL FOCUS ALONG THE COLD
FRONT. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...VERY WARM AND DRY AIR WILL SPREAD NEWD
OUT OF THE GREAT BASIN INTO FAR SWRN MT. THUS...SOME OF THESE STORMS
MAY BE DRY...FROM SERN ID INTO SWRN MT AND WRN WY. LOCAL AGENCIES
CONTINUE TO INDICATE THAT FUELS CONDITIONS ARE NOT YET CRITICAL.

   VALID 051200Z - 061200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE CNTRL AND WRN STATES WILL CONTINUE TO
FLATTEN AS A LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH SHIFTS NEWD INTO
SRN CANADA. AT THE SURFACE...A TROUGH WILL EXTEND FROM THE CNTRL
DAKOTAS SWD INTO ERN CO/WRN KS. S WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE
PLAINS...WITH VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS FOR THE CNTRL AND SRN HIGH
PLAINS. TO THE W...HOT...DRY...AND LOCALLY WINDY CONDITIONS WILL
PREVAIL OVER THE ERN GREAT BASIN IN THE WAKE OF THE DEPARTED UPPER
   SHORTWAVE TROUGH.

   ...SRN NV...UT...WRN CO...NRN AZ...
SWLY FLOW ALOFT WILL EXIST ON NRN PERIPHERY OF THE UPPER

AIR MASS WILL REMAIN...AND BY AFTERNOON GUSTY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH
APPEAR LIKELY. IN ADDITION...MOISTURE LEVELS WILL INCREASE FROM THE
SOUTH AND RESULT IN SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE ENTIRE FOUR
CORNERS AREA. SOME STORMS OVER ERN UT MAY BE DRY...BUT PRECIPITABLE
WATER VALUES NEAR 0.75 INCHES SUGGEST RAIN WITH THE STRONGER CORES.

...SERN CO/WRN KS/OK AND TX PANHANDLES...
IT WILL BECOME HOT WITH TEMPERATURES OF 95-100 AS SLY WINDS INCREASE
IN RESPONSE TO A DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE TROUGH. MIN RH IS LIKELY TO
DIP INTO THE TEENS AND LOWER TWENTIES BY AFTERNOON. S WINDS OF 15-25
MPH WILL BE LIKELY AS WELL. ALTHOUGH LONG TERM DROUGHT
PERSISTS...EFFECTS OF RECENT PRECIPITATION SHOULD HELP MITIGATE THE
   OVERALL THREAT.
