   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0351 AM CDT TUE JUL 08 2008

   VALID 081200Z - 091200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF NRN CA/WRN ORE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BE DOMINANT OFF THE CA COAST THROUGH THE
PERIOD. NELY /OFFSHORE/ SFC WINDS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE PERIOD
OVER THE COASTAL MTNS OF NRN CA/WRN ORE. MODERATE WIND SPEEDS
COMBINED WITH LOW RH READINGS WILL PRODUCE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS OVER THIS REGION. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE NATION...AN UPPER
LEVEL RIDGE WILL REMAIN CENTERED OVER THE SRN PLAINS SUPPORTING
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER...TSTMS WILL INCREASE IN COVERAGE
   AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA/WRN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NELY WINDS FROM 20-25 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 40 MPH...MIN RH READINGS NEAR 10 PERCENT

IN THE WAKE OF AN UPPER TROUGH...A BUILDING UPPER RIDGE COMBINED
WITH BUILDING SFC HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE INTERIOR PAC NW WILL
SUPPORT INCREASING NELY /OFFSHORE/ WINDS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF
THE COASTAL RANGES OF NRN CA AND ORE. THE STRONGEST SFC WINDS WILL
OCCUR DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...WHEN DIURNAL EFFECTS ENHANCE
PRESSURE/THERMAL GRADIENTS. SUSTAINED NELY WINDS WILL AVERAGE FROM
20-25 MPH DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...WITH GUSTS OVER 40 MPH.
DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS...WINDS WILL DIMINISH TO SUSTAINED AROUND
15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH. WITH THE PRESENCE OF AN UPPER
RIDGE...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL BE PREVALENT...WITH MIN RH
   READINGS AROUND 10 PERCENT.

   ....GREAT BASIN...
GENERALLY LIGHT WINDS AND A DRY AIRMASS THROUGH A DEEP LAYER WILL
SUPPORT HIGH HAINES INDEX OVER THE REGION. HOWEVER...SUSTAINED NLY
WINDS WILL AVERAGE LESS THAN 15 MPH.

CORRECTED TO ADD CRITICAL AREA IN TEXT

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN CA/SWRN ORE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN CENTERED OFF THE CA COAST TOMORROW.
ANOTHER DAY OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL BE PRESENT OVER
COASTAL MTNS OF NRN CA AND SWRN ORE AS A MODERATE OFFSHORE PRESSURE
GRADIENT EXISTS. AS AN UPPER TROUGH MOVES WWD INTO THE SWRN CONUS
TOMORROW...TSTM COVERAGE IS EXPECTED INCREASE OVER NM/AZ. ON THE WRN
PORTIONS OF THIS INCREASING TSTM COVERAGE...ISOLATED DRY TSTMS WILL
BE POSSIBLE OVER THE LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA/SWRN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: MODERATE TO STRONG WINDS / LOW RH

ANOTHER DAY OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED TOMORROW
AS A REINFORCING AREA OF SFC HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE INTERIOR
PAC NW AND SFC LOW PRESSURE TROUGH REMAINS ALONG THE COASTLINE. AS A
RESULT...NELY WINDS WILL REMAIN SUSTAINED AROUND 20 MPH WITH GUSTS
OVER 35 MPH IN THE COASTAL RANGES DURING THE OVERNIGHT/MORNING HOURS
WITH WEAKER WINDS EXPECTED DURING THE AFTERNOON. POOR RH RECOVERY
WILL BE PREVALENT IN THESE AREAS DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS...WITH
LOW RH READINGS /AROUND 10 PERCENT/ CONTINUING THROUGH THE DAYTIME
   HOURS.

   ...LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY...
ON THE WRN EDGE OF AN INCREASING MONSOONAL SURGE...INCREASING MID
LEVEL MOISTURE WILL SUPPORT TSTMS AS FAR WEST AS THE LOWER CO RIVER
VALLEY. A DEEPLY MIXED/DRY BOUNDARY LAYER IN THIS REGION WILL
SUPPORT MAIN DRY TSTMS. EXPECTED LACK OF GREATER TSTM COVERAGE WILL
PRECLUDE A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT.
