   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0312 AM CDT MON JUL 21 2008

   VALID 211200Z - 221200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SWRN ID...FAR NRN NV...SERN
   OREGON...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER MUCH OF THE WRN STATES
PROVIDING VERY WARM CONDITIONS. MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL SPREAD NWD
THROUGH THE FOUR CORNERS STATES AND INTO SRN ID WITH DRY STORMS
ALONG WRN PORTIONS OF THE MOIST PLUME. TO THE E...A WEAK AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE WILL FORM DURING THE AFTERNOON OVER ERN CO...AND WILL HELP
PRODUCE GUSTY SLY WINDS FOR THE CNTRL AND SRN HIGH PLAINS WHERE HOT
   TEMPERATURES WILL PERSIST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SWRN ID...FAR NRN NV...SERN
   OREGON...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: ISOLATED TO SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS

MID LEVEL MOISTURE CONTINUES TO STREAM NWD OUT OF THE GREAT
BASIN...ON WRN EDGE OF UPPER HIGH AND JUST AHEAD OF AN UPPER LOW
MOVING INTO NRN CA. AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS WILL ERUPT OVER MUCH OF
THE AREA...FROM NV INTO SRN ID. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES WILL FAVOR
WET STORMS OVER SERN ID...WRN WY AND S INTO UT...BUT DRY STORMS WILL
OCCUR OVER SERN OREGON...SWRN ID...AND NRN NV WHERE LOW LEVELS WILL
BE HOTTEST AND DRIEST. STORMS WILL PERSIST...AND MAY INCREASE
FURTHER...OVER OREGON AND WRN ID AS THE UPPER LOW APPROACHES.

   ...ERN CO...SWRN NEB...WRN KS...OK/TX PANHANDLES...
A WEAK AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL DEVELOP OVER ERN CO...AND WILL HELP
TO INCREASE SLY WINDS DURING THE AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF
15-20 MPH WILL BE LIKELY WITH GUSTS OF 20-30 MPH...ESPECIALLY OVER
THE PANHANDLES. MIN RH WILL DROP TO 15-20 PERCENT...AND WILL COMBINE
WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR 100 TO CREATE A MARGINALLY CRITICAL FIRE
   SITUATION.

   ...SERN STATES...
VERY HOT WEATHER WILL PERSIST WITH AN UPPER RIDGE ALOFT AND DRY AIR
AT THE SURFACE. HIGH TEMPERATURES APPROACHING 100 F OVER GA AND THE
CAROLINAS WILL CAUSE RH TO DROP INTO THE 20 PERCENT RANGE.
OVERALL...WINDS WILL BE LIGHT...BUT MAY INCREASE TO AROUND 10 MPH
OUT OF THE SW WITH A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN
ELEVATED FIRE THREAT IN LOCALIZED AREAS THAT HAVE SEEN THE LEAST
AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS.
