   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0342 AM CDT WED AUG 06 2008

   VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN CA...MUCH OF CNTRL AND SRN
   ORE...FAR NWRN NV...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A WARM AIR MASS WILL SPREAD NWD ACROSS THE WRN STATES INTO THE
PACIFIC NW BENEATH A STRONG UPPER RIDGE. MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL
RESULT IN NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE ERN GREAT BASIN AND FOUR
CORNERS STATES...BUT A MIX OF DRY AND WET STORMS WILL BE FOUND OVER
NRN CA INTO OREGON WITH A SLIGHT WEAKENING ALONG THE WRN EDGE OF THE
RIDGE. A NWLY FLOW REGIME WILL KEEP CONDITIONS MOSTLY COOL AND MOIST
FROM THE UPPER MS VALLEY SEWD INTO THE OH VALLEY AND NERN STATES. A
WEAK LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL BRING WLY WINDS TO THE CAROLINAS AND
   SERN VA WITH HOT TEMPERATURES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA...MUCH OF CNTRL AND SRN
   ORE...FAR NWRN NV...

   PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...SOME DRY...AFTER A
   WARM AND DRY PERIOD

AN AREA OF MID LEVEL MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER SHORTWAVE
WILL CONTINUE NWD ACROSS NRN CA INTO OREGON LATER TODAY. AFTER
SEVERAL DAYS OF WARM AND DRY WEATHER...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL
INCREASE THROUGHOUT THE DAY MAINLY OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN OF NRN CA
AND SRN OREGON. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES SUGGEST THAT SOME STORMS
WILL HAVE RAIN...HOWEVER...A FEW CLUSTERS OF LIGHTNING STRIKES ARE
LIKELY...AND GIVEN DRY FUELS MAY RESULT IN FIRE STARTS. ISOLATED
STRIKES MAY CONTINUE WELL INTO THE EVENING.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0352 AM CDT WED AUG 06 2008

   VALID 071200Z - 081200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR WRN MT...ID...NRN NV...CNTRL
   WA...CNTRL AND ERN ORE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE WRN STATES...BUT THE NWRN
EDGE WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN OVER THE PACIFIC NW AS A TROUGH
APPROACHES. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR OVER THE PACIFIC NW
AS MOISTURE SURGES NWD AROUND THE WRN SIDE OF THE RIDGE. THE THREAT
OF NUMEROUS LIGHTNING STRIKES WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO START NEW
FIRES FROM OREGON INTO MT. IT WILL REMAIN HOT AND DRY OVER MUCH OF
CA WITH LOCALLY GUSTY SWLY WINDS INTO THE SRN GREAT BASIN DURING THE
AFTERNOON...WHILE AN AMPLIFYING UPPER TROUGH WILL BRING MUCH COOLER
CONDITIONS E OF THE MS RIVER ALONG WITH THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE DEEP
   S.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - WRN MT...ID...NRN NV...CNTRL
   WA...CNTRL AND ERN ORE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS AFTER A HOT
   AND DRY PERIOD

MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO SURGE NWD AROUND THE NWRN EDGE
OF THE UPPER RIDGE...CREATING A FAVORABLE SETUP FOR AFTERNOON
THUNDERSTORMS. WHILE SOME OF THESE STORMS WILL CONTAIN HEAVY
RAIN...THEY WILL ALSO PRODUCE NUMEROUS LIGHTNING STRIKES WHICH MAY
CAUSE FIRES WHERE FUELS ARE DRY. THE MOST LIKELY AREAS FOR PURELY
DRY STORMS WILL BE ACROSS NRN NV..ERN OREGON...AND SRN ID WHERE THE
SUB CLOUD LAYER WILL BE DRIEST.
