   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0355 AM CDT THU AUG 14 2008

   VALID 141200Z - 151200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL DIG SWD THROUGH THE NRN ROCKIES TODAY. TO THE
WEST OF THIS TROUGH...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL STRENGTHEN AND BUILD NWD
TROUGH THE PAC NW. AS A RESULT...WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL
BE PREVALENT FROM CA AND THE GREAT BASIN NWD INTO THE INTERIOR PAC
NW LEADING TO A WIDESPREAD REGION OF LOW RH READINGS. GENERALLY
LIGHT WINDS WILL BE FOUND WITHIN THE UPPER RIDGE AXIS...HOWEVER
MODERATE NLY WINDS WILL OCCUR OVER PORTIONS OF THE ERN GREAT BASIN
PRODUCING NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

   ...ERN GREAT BASIN...
NLY WINDS FROM 15-20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE
ERN GREAT BASIN TODAY...AS STEEP LOW-MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES COMBINE
WITH MODERATE NLY WINDS AT MID LEVELS ON THE PERIPHERY OF THE UPPER
LOW OVER THE NRN ROCKIES. LOW RH READINGS AROUND 15 PERCENT WILL
COMBINE WITH THESE WINDS TO PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
   CONDITIONS.

   ...INTERIOR PAC NW/WRN GREAT BASIN...
LOW RH READINGS AND LIGHT LOW-MID LEVEL WINDS WILL PRODUCE HIGH
HAINES INDICES /5-6/ OVER THE REGION TODAY. WELL ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES FROM 100-110 DEG F WILL AID IN LOW RH READINGS FROM
   10-15 PERCENT.
