   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0254 AM CDT MON AUG 25 2008

   VALID 251200Z - 261200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN CA...NRN AND WRN NV...SERN
   OREGON...SRN ID...CNTRL MT...NWRN WY AND UT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A POWERFUL UPPER TROUGH WILL BREAK DOWN THE RIDGE OVER THE NWRN
STATES...CREATING A LARGE ZONE OF CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS FROM NERN
CA INTO MT. LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN AHEAD OF THIS TROUGH OVER CNTRL
MT...AND WILL ALSO INDUCE STRONG WINDS ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS.
ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN OF UT
WITH GREATER CHANCES OF RAIN ACROSS NRN AZ AND CO. TO THE E...HIGH
PRESSURE WILL REMAIN AT THE SURFACE OVER THE GREAT LAKES REGION
KEEPING CONDITIONS RELATIVELY COOL...AND THE GULF COAST REGION WILL
REMAIN VERY WET WITH THE REMNANTS OF FAY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN CA...NRN AND WRN NV...SERN
   OREGON...SRN ID...CNTRL MT...NWRN WY AND UT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS...LOW RH...SHIFTING WINDS WITH DRY
   COLD FRONT

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND FROM NWRN MT SWWD INTO SERN OREGON
AND NRN CA LATE IN THE DAY. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT...A VERY HOT AND DRY
AIR MASS WILL BE IN PLACE WITH MIN RH VALUES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS
AND LOWER TEENS. WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 20 MPH SUSTAINED ON
AVERAGE...WITH HIGHER GUSTS OVER 30 MPH. SOME OF THE STRONGEST WINDS
WILL BE OVER NERN CA AND NWRN NV...WHERE WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH ARE
LIKELY. THE FRONT WILL MOVE RAPIDLY EWD DURING THE EVENING AND
OVERNIGHT HOURS...WITH RAPIDLY SHIFTING WINDS OUT OF THE NW. RH
LEVELS WILL RECOVER OVERNIGHT...BUT WINDS WILL STILL BE STRONG.

   ...UT...
SCATTERED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY OVER THE WASATCH AND
UINTA MTS LATE TODAY AS MOISTURE INCREASES FROM THE S. SOME STORMS
ARE LIKELY TO BE DRY GIVEN A RELATIVELY DRY SUB CLOUD LAYER. CHANCES
OF RAIN INCREASE WITH SWD EXTENT WHERE PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES
   WILL BE HIGHER.

...ERN MT INTO THE WRN DAKOTAS...
SELY WINDS WILL BECOME RATHER STRONG ESPECIALLY OVER THE DAKOTAS
TODAY AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER CNTRL MT. SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF
20-30 MPH ARE EXPECTED FROM NEB INTO SD...WITH LIGHTER SPEEDS INTO
ERN MT OF 15-20 MPH. RH LEVELS WILL BE MARGINAL WHERE WINDS ARE
STRONGEST...WITH VALUES MAINLY IN THE 20 PERCENT RANGE DURING THE
AFTERNOON. FARTHER NW INTO ERN MT...RH WILL BE IN THE TEENS WITH A
LESSER WIND THREAT. OVERNIGHT...WINDS WILL SHIFT TO NWLY ACROSS ERN
MT AS A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH. BY THAT TIME...RH WILL HAVE
RECOVERED BUT WINDS WILL BE STRONG OUT OF THE NW.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0254 AM CDT MON AUG 25 2008

   VALID 261200Z - 271200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL AND SRN WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A POTENT UPPER TROUGH WILL CONTINUE EWD ACROSS THE NRN ROCKIES INTO
THE NRN PLAINS TUE. VERY STRONG WINDS WILL OCCUR BOTH AHEAD OF AND
BEHIND A COLD FRONT THAT WILL EXTEND FROM THE WRN DAKOTAS INTO CNTRL
WY BY LATE AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND LOW
HUMIDITY WILL CREATE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR SRN
WY...WITH MORE MARGINAL CONDITIONS SURROUNDING THIS AREA.
ELSEWHERE...A VERY DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN OVER CA AND THE GREAT
BASIN BUT WINDS WILL NOT BE TOO STRONG. HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NERN
STATES WILL RESULT IN DRY WEATHER THERE AS WELL BUT WITH COOL
   TEMPERATURES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CNTRL AND SRN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WLY WINDS AND LOW RH

THE BASE OF A STRONG UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH/JET WILL MOVE ACROSS MT
AND WY TUE AFTERNOON. STRONG MIXING OF A DRY AIR MASS WILL RESULT IN
20-30 MPH WINDS WITH HIGHER GUSTS ACROSS MUCH OF CNTRL AND SRN WY.
MIN RH VALUES SHOULD AVERAGE NEAR 15 PERCENT WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES
IN THE 80S F. WLY WINDS WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT TO NWLY LATE IN THE DAY
   AS THE FRONT DROPS S.

...ERN MT INTO THE DAKOTAS AND MN..
A STRONG COLD FRONT AND PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH WILL EXTEND ACROSS WRN ND
AND SD BY AFTERNOON. BEHIND THIS FRONT...NWLY WINDS OF 25-30 MPH
WITH HIGHER GUSTS ARE LIKELY ALONG WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE
70S TO NEAR 80 F. RH WILL BE MARGINALLY LOW AND IN THE 20 PERCENT
   RANGE.

E OF THIS FRONT...SELY WINDS WILL BE EQUALLY STRONG OVER THE ERN
DAKOTAS AND MN. PORTIONS OF MN HAVE SEEN LITTLE RAIN OVER THE PAST
MONTH. THUS...ALTHOUGH MIN RH WILL STRUGGLE TO DROP BELOW 30
PERCENT...VERY STRONG WINDS OVER 30 MPH MAY RESULT IN RAPID FIRE
   GROWTH SHOULD ANY FIRES START.

   ...SRN ID...NV...UT...NWRN CO...
MARGINAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL EXIST ON TUE AS A VERY DRY AIR
MASS REMAINS IN PLACE AND WINDS REMAIN GUSTY. THIS AREA WILL BE
SOUTH OF THE TRAILING COLD FRONT...WHERE SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15-20
MPH ARE LIKELY ALONG WITH MIN RH IN THE TEENS.
