   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0341 AM CDT TUE SEP 02 2008

   VALID 021200Z - 031200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF NRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH OVER THE NRN HIGH PLAINS WILL PIVOT NEWD INTO THE
SRN PARTS OF THE CANADIAN PRAIRIE PROVINCES AS AN UPPER RIDGE
REMAINS OVER THE OHIO VALLEY REGION. THE CENTROID OF SURFACE HIGH
PRESSURE WILL MOVE EWD OVER THE NRN PLAINS IN WAKE OF A SURFACE COLD
FRONT FORECAST TO BE OVER PARTS OF THE MIDWEST EXTENDING SWWD INTO
THE SRN HIGH PLAINS. A RELATIVELY STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT DURING
THE MORNING HOURS WILL BEGIN TO SLACKEN BY THE AFTERNOON ACROSS
PARTS NRN CA. BEFORE THIS OCCURS...GUSTY WINDS EARLY IN THE PERIOD
WILL COMBINE WITH LOW RH TO SUPPORT A CRITICAL FIRE THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF NRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SUSTAINED NELY WINDS AROUND 20 MPH...WITH HIGHER
   GUSTS / RH 15-20 PERCENT

THE MODESTLY STRONG OFFSHORE PRESSURE GRADIENT RESULTING FROM HIGH
PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN AND A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH NEAR THE CA
COAST IS FORECAST DURING THE MORNING HOURS. THIS WILL CREATE GUSTY
NELY WINDS MAINLY ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE COASTAL RANGE.
WITH MIN RH ANTICIPATED TO BE NEAR 15 PERCENT...A PERIOD OF
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY BE MET FOR SEVERAL HOURS MAINLY
DURING THE MORNING ACROSS THE HIGHLIGHTED AREA. THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT IS EXPECTED TO SLACKEN BY LATE MORNING/EARLY AFTERNOON.
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS MAY POSSIBLY RESUME LATE IN THE DAY 1 PERIOD
AS MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS A SOMEWHAT SIMILAR BUT POTENTIALLY MORE
LIMITED THREAT IN TIME AND SPACE OVER THE SAME GENERAL AREA.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0345 AM CDT TUE SEP 02 2008

   VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
ANOTHER UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE OVER PARTS OF THE NRN
ROCKIES AND NRN HIGH PLAINS DURING THE PERIOD. A SURFACE LOW
PRESSURE AREA AND AN ATTENDANT COLD FRONT ARE FORECAST TO MOVE SEWD
OVER THE AFOREMENTIONED REGION. AN OFFSHORE PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER
PARTS OF NRN CA MAY AGAIN DEVELOP BUT WIND SPEEDS ARE FORECAST TO BE
WEAKER THAN DAY 1 AND PROBABLY REMAINING BELOW CRITICAL THRESHOLDS.
AS A RESULT...NO LARGE AREAS OF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
   ANTICIPATED PRECLUDING A CRITICAL AREA.

   ...PARTS OF NRN CA...
A MORE LIMITED FIRE WEATHER SCENARIO COMPARED TO DAY 1 IS
ANTICIPATED DURING THE DAY 2 MORNING HOURS. NONETHELESS...A SIMILAR
SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT AS SUGGESTED BY SOME MODEL GUIDANCE MAY
LEAD TO GUSTY NELY WINDS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE COASTAL
RANGE. WITH SUSTAINED SPEEDS GENERALLY BELOW 20 MPH...LOW RH
HOWEVER MAY ENHANCE AN OTHERWISE MORE LIMITED THREAT.
