   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0148 AM CDT SUN SEP 28 2008

   VALID 281200Z - 291200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD OVER THE WRN STATES AS AN UPPER TROUGH
DIVES SEWD INTO THE NRN PLAINS AND UPPER MS VALLEY. VERY WARM AND
DRY AIR WILL RESIDE BENEATH THE RIDGE ESPECIALLY OVER CA...OREGON
AND THE WRN GREAT BASIN. A COLD FRONT WILL LIE FROM NW MN INTO WRN
NEB BY AFTERNOON...WITH GUSTY NWLY WINDS BEHIND IT OVER ERN MT...WY
AND THE WRN DAKOTAS. MEANWHILE...AN EXPANSIVE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE
WILL BRING DRY AND CALM CONDITIONS TO MUCH OF THE MIDWEST AS WELL AS
THE MIDDLE AND LOWER MS VALLEY AND SRN PLAINS.

   ...SRN AND WRN OREGON...NRN CA...
AS THE UPPER RIDGE BUILDS...RH WILL LOWER INTO THE LOW TO MID TEENS
WITH WARM TEMPERATURES REACHING THE 90S F. LOCALLY GUSTY NLY WINDS
WILL OCCUR OVER WRN OREGON AS THE THERMAL RIDGE STRENGTHENS INLAND.
THE WARMING AND DRYING WILL ALSO FAVOR AFTERNOON FIRE GROWTH WITH
ANY ONGOING FIRES. OVERNIGHT...LOCALLY GUSTY ELY WINDS WILL KEEP RH
RECOVERY POOR ALONG THE W SLOPES OF THE CASCADES.

   ...SERN MO...NERN AR...WRN KY/TN...
IT WILL BE A WARM AND DRY DAY WITH SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE. NLY WINDS
MAY APPROACH 10 MPH...BUT WILL GENERALLY REMAIN WEAK. RECENT DROUGHT
CONDITIONS PERSIST ACROSS THE REGION...THUS...WARM AFTERNOON
TEMPERATURES ALONG WITH MIN RH IN THE 20-35 PERCENT RANGE AND STEEP
LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES MAY YIELD AN INCREASED FIRE THREAT DURING THE
   AFTERNOON.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0149 AM CDT SUN SEP 28 2008

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN OREGON...NRN CA...WRN NV...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER RIDGE AXIS WILL EXTEND FROM THE FOUR CORNERS REGION
NWWD INTO THE PACIFIC NW...WITH A SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH FROM WRN
OREGON INTO NRN CA. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE NWD
ALONG THE WRN EDGE OF THE RIDGE AND WILL HELP TO PRODUCE DRY
THUNDERSTORMS FROM THE NRN SIERRA INTO SRN OREGON.

ELSEWHERE...COOL BUT DRY CONDITIONS WILL EXIST BEHIND A COLD FRONT
ACROSS THE CNTRL AND NRN PLAINS...WHILE HIGH PRESSURE KEEPS
CONDITIONS DRY OVER THE OH VALLEY INTO THE TN VALLEY REGION.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN OREGON...NRN CA...WRN NV...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS...MDT HAINES INDEX
   WITH ONGOING FIRES

IT WILL REMAIN VERY WARM AND DRY BENEATH THE UPPER RIDGE ON MONDAY.
MIN RH WILL DIP INTO THE TEENS WITH A MDT HAINES INDEX RESULTING DUE
TO STEEP LAPSE RATES AND DRY AIR. MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL INCREASE
OUT OF THE SE...AND AS A WEAK UPPER TROUGH SKIRTS THE WRN EDGE OF
THE RIDGE...LIFT WILL BE ENHANCED AND ISOLATED TO SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY MAINLY OVER THE SIERRA AS WELL AS THE HIGH
TERRAIN OF NRN CA AND SRN OREGON. GIVEN ANTECEDENT DRY
CONDITIONS...NEW FIRE STARTS APPEAR LIKELY WITH ANY CONCENTRATED
   AREAS OF LIGHTNING.
