   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0331 AM CDT THU OCT 16 2008

   VALID 161200Z - 171200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER TROUGH WILL EXTEND FROM THE NRN ROCKIES
EWD INTO THE NERN STATES WITH GENERALLY COOL WEATHER DUE TO HIGH
PRESSURE. A COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND FROM THE NEW ENGLAND COASTAL AREA
SWWD INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY...WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ALONG
IT. AHEAD OF THIS FRONT A WARM AND DRY AIR MASS WILL EXIST OVER THE
SERN STATES WITH LOW RH BUT WEAK WINDS.

OUT W...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD ALONG THE W COAST. A VERY WARM AND
EXTREMELY DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN AT THE SURFACE...BUT THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT OVER SRN CA AND THUS WIND SPEEDS WILL BE DIMINISHED
COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS FEW DAYS.

   ...SRN CA...
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING THROUGH PASSES AND CANYONS ALONG
THE COASTAL RANGE BUT OVERALL SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL NOT BE
STRONG. SPEEDS OF 10-20 MPH ARE LIKELY IN GENERAL. THE MAIN THREAT
WILL BE DUE TO VERY DRY CONDITIONS WITH RH IN THE SINGLE DIGITS.
ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL NOT BE STRONG...THE LONG DURATION OF LOW RH WILL
POSE A LOCALIZED THREAT NEAR ONGOING FIRES.

   ...CAROLINAS/GA/N FL...
A WEAKENING AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN OVER THE SERN STATES
TODAY WITH A FLATTENING UPPER RIDGE ALOFT. THIS WILL RESULT IN WARM
TEMPERATURES NEAR 90 F ALONG WITH SEVERAL HOURS OF LOW RH MAINLY IN
THE 25-30 PERCENT RANGE. WINDS WILL BE WEAK AND WILL TEND TO
   MITIGATE THE OVERALL FIRE THREAT.
