   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0231 AM CDT FRI OCT 17 2008

   VALID 171200Z - 181200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE UPPER RIDGE WILL BE CENTERED OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AND GREAT
BASIN WITH AN EXPANSIVE AREA OF WARM AND DRY WEATHER BENEATH. THE
SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER SRN CA WILL WEAKEN BUT VERY LOW RH
WILL REMAIN. STRONG WLY FLOW ATOP THE UPPER RIDGE WILL RESULT IN
WINDY CONDITIONS FOR WRN MT INTO THE NRN PLAINS WITH COOL
TEMPERATURES. TO THE E...HIGH PRESSURE WILL STRETCH FROM THE CNTRL
PLAINS EWD INTO THE MS AND OH VALLEYS WITH COOL AND DRY WEATHER. A
COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND FROM NC INTO SE LA...WITH SHOWERS AND STORMS
ALONG IT. MARGINALLY LOW RH AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL EXIST AHEAD
OF THIS FRONT INTO SRN CA AND NRN FL...WITH WEAK WINDS.

   ...SRN CA...
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS THROUGH PASSES AND CANYONS WILL OCCUR EARLY THIS
MORNING ALONG WITH POOR RH RECOVERY. RH WILL LOWER FURTHER INTO THE
SINGLE DIGITS BY AFTERNOON AND THE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL RELAX
FURTHER AND WINDS WILL DIMINISH. THE COMBINATION OF VERY DRY AIR
ALONG WITH DAYTIME HEATING WILL FAVOR FIRE GROWTH DURING THE
   AFTERNOON.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0231 AM CDT FRI OCT 17 2008

   VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE W WILL SHIFT EWD INTO THE HIGH PLAINS ON
SAT AS A WEAK UPPER TROUGH OVERSPREADS THE WRN STATES. THIS WILL
SPREAD VERY DRY AIR NEWD INTO WY/CO/NM AND THE WRN HIGH PLAINS. SLY
WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE CNTRL AND NRN PLAINS AS A SURFACE
TROUGH DEEPENS FROM SD INTO ERN CO. THE WRN TROUGH WILL RESULT IN
INCREASED SWLY WINDS OVER A LARGE AREA...FROM CA INTO THE GREAT
BASIN AND FOUR CORNERS STATES. TO THE E...AN UPPER TROUGH WILL
AMPLIFY ACROSS THE ERN STATES WITH HIGH PRESSURE BRINGING DRY NLY
WINDS FROM THE OH/TN VALLEYS INTO THE DEEP SOUTH.

   ...NRN CO...SERN WY...WRN NEB...
A SURFACE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN DURING THEY DAY WITH SWLY FLOW ALOFT. A
VERY WARM AND DRY AIR MASS WILL STREAM NEWD OUT OF THE SW WITH RH IN
THE TEENS AND SUSTAINED WLY WINDS AROUND 15-20 MPH. HIGHER GUSTS OF
20-30 MPH WILL BE LIKELY OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OVER CNTRL AND ERN
WY. OVERALL...MARGINAL SUSTAINED WINDS COUPLED WITH ONLY MODERATELY
DRY FUEL CONDITIONS SHOULD MITIGATE THE THREAT.

   ...SRN AL...SWRN GA...FL PANHANDLE...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL SURGE SWD ACROSS THE AREA BEHIND A COLD FRONT AND
ON THE BACKSIDE OF AN AMPLIFYING UPPER TROUGH. WHILE TEMPERATURES
WILL BE COOLER AND IN THE 70S F...THE AIR MASS WILL BE RELATIVELY
DRY WITH MIN RH IN THE 30-35 PERCENT RANGE. IN ADDITION...NLY WINDS
MAY INCREASE TO NEAR 15 MPH SUSTAINED. THIS WILL COMBINE WITH
DROUGHT CONDITIONS TO CREATE POSSIBLE CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS. THE
MARGINAL RH VALUES AND SHALLOW MIXING LAYERS WILL TEND TO MITIGATE
THE OVERALL THREAT BUT DRIER THAN EXPECTED RH COULD RESULT IN
   CRITICAL CONDITIONS.

   ...SERN OR...CA/NV/UT/AZ...
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 10-15 MPH DURING THE DAY ON SAT
AS A WEAK UPPER TROUGH SHUNTS THE UPPER RIDGE TO THE E. IT WILL
REMAIN VERY DRY WITH MIN RH IN THE 10-15 PERCENT RANGE. FOR SRN
CA...ONSHORE FLOW WILL PREVAIL W OF THE COASTAL RANGE WITH HIGHER RH
VALUES...BUT GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RH OVER THE DESERTS.
