   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0147 AM CDT SAT OCT 18 2008

   VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE W WILL SHIFT EWD INTO THE HIGH PLAINS AS A
WEAK UPPER TROUGH CONTINUES TO MOVE INTO THE WRN STATES. SWLY WINDS
WILL INCREASE ACROSS A LARGE AREA FROM CA INTO THE GREAT BASIN AND
FOUR CORNERS REGION. MEANWHILE A WAVE SEEN ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY
THIS MORNING WILL MOVE NWD INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST...AND MAY
   INFLUENCE ISOLD THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.

AHEAD OF THE SHORT WAVE...DRIER AIR WILL OVERSPREAD WY/CO/NM AND THE
WRN HIGH PLAINS. A SURFACE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN IN THE LEE OF THE
ROCKIES...WITH INCREASING SLY WINDS RESULTING THROUGH MUCH OF THE
   CNTRL PLAINS.

MEANWHILE IN THE EAST...AN UPPER TROUGH WILL AMPLIFY ALONG THE EAST
COAST...WITH NWLY WINDS AND SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE USHERING IN COOLER
AND DRIER AIR FROM THE OH/TN VALLEYS TO THE SOUTH. DESPITE MARGINAL
RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...DROUGHT CONDITIONS AND SUSTAINED NLY SURFACE
WINDS NEAR 10 TO 15 MPH MAY LOCALLY ENHANCE THE FIRE THREAT.

   ...NRN CO...SERN WY...WRN NEB...
SWLY WINDS WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION...WITH A DEEPENING SURFACE
TROUGH RESULTING IN THE LEE OF THE ROCKIES. WARM AND DRY AIR WILL
STREAM NEWD OUT OF THE SW WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITIES IN THE TEENS TO
LOWER 20S AND SUSTAINED WLY WINDS NEAR 15 TO 25 MPH. GUSTY WINDS
NEAR 35 MPH WILL BE LIKELY ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF CNTRL AND
ERN WY...WHERE THE BEST JUXTAPOSITION OF STRONG WINDS/LOW RH WILL
BE. HOWEVER...MARGINAL SUSTAINED WINDS COMBINED WITH MODERATELY DRY
FUEL CONDITIONS SHOULD MITIGATE THE THREAT.

   ...SERN OR...CA/NV/UT/AZ...
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 10 TO 15 MPH AS A WEAK UPPER TROUGH
SHIFTS THE UPPER RIDGE TO THE EAST. DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL FOR
MUCH OF THE WEST...WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITIES NEAR 10 TO 15 PERCENT.
ISOLD THUNDERSTORMS MAY FORM N OF THESE DRY AREAS ACROSS NRN OR/SERN
WA/NRN ID. FARTHER S IN CA...ONSHORE FLOW W OF THE COASTAL RANGE
WILL ALIGN WITH HIGHER RHS...WHILE DRY CONDITIONS AND GUSTY WINDS
   WILL PERSIST OVER THE DESERTS.

   ...SRN AL...SWRN GA...FL PANHANDLE...
A COLD FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH THE AREA...WITH COOLER AND DRIER
NWLY/NLY FLOW BEHIND. MARGINALLY CRITICAL CONDITIONS ARE MAINLY
EXPECTED TO BE CONFINED TO THE FL PANHANDLE WITH RELATIVE HUMIDITIES
NEAR 30 PERCENT...AND SUSTAINED WINDS OF 10 TO 15 MPH.
HOWEVER...SHOULD TEMPERATURES WARM MORE THAN FORECAST/MIXING LAYER
   DEEPEN...CRITICAL CONDITIONS MAY BE MET.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0225 AM CDT SAT OCT 18 2008

   VALID 191200Z - 201200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A WEAK TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO THE DESERT SW...WHILE AN UPPER TROUGH
WILL MOVE OFFSHORE OF THE MID ATLANTIC. DRY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST
ACROSS SRN CA...NV...AND AZ...BUT THE FLOW WILL REMAIN ONSHORE.

MEANWHILE ACROSS THE EAST...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE ANCHORED NEAR THE
ERN GREAT LAKES WILL ALLOW FOR DRY NLY/NELY SURFACE WINDS WHILE THE
EXITING UPPER LOW WILL CONTINUE TO BRING IN DRY NWLY FLOW ACROSS
MUCH OF THE OH/TN VALLEYS...THE MID ATLANTIC AND THE SERN STATES.
MARGINAL RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...ESPECIALLY NEAR WRN NC/VA...AND
SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 10 MPH WILL ENHANCE FIRE THREAT ACROSS DROUGHT
STRICKEN AREAS. PORTIONS OF THE FL PANHANDLE MAY EXPERIENCE A FEW
HRS OF CRITICALLY LOW RHS...ALTHOUGH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
   LIGHTER THAN D1.
