   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0129 AM CDT SUN OCT 19 2008

   VALID 191200Z - 201200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A WEAK UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO THE DESERT SOUTHWEST TODAY. DRY
CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST ACROSS SRN CA...NV...AND AZ...BUT THE FLOW
WILL REMAIN ONSHORE. A DISTURBANCE NOTED IN WV IMAGERY OFFSHORE OF
N/CNTRL CA THIS MORNING MAY INFLUENCE CONVECTION WITH ISOLD
LIGHTNING STRIKES ACROSS N/CNTRL CA AND WRN NV AS IT PROGRESSES
ENEWD WITH THE TROUGH...ALTHOUGH THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY IS EXPECTED
   TO BE MINIMAL.

MEANWHILE ACROSS THE EAST...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE ANCHORED NEAR NEW
ENGLAND WILL ALLOW FOR COOL AND DRY NLY/NELY SURFACE WINDS WHILE THE
EXITING UPPER LOW WILL GRADUALLY ALLOW FOR THE PRESSURE GRADIENT TO
RELAX ALONG THE MID ATLANTIC COAST BY LATE EVENING. MARGINAL
RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...ESPECIALLY NEAR WRN NC/VA...AND SUSTAINED
WINDS NEAR 10 TO 15 MPH WILL ENHANCE FIRE THREAT ACROSS DROUGHT
   STRICKEN AREAS.

PORTIONS OF THE FL PANHANDLE MAY EXPERIENCE A FEW HRS OF CRITICALLY
LOW RHS...ALTHOUGH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHTER TODAY THAN
   YESTERDAY.

   ...FL PANHANDLE...
COOL AND DRY NWLY FLOW ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE EXITING TROUGH AND
FOLLOWING YESTERDAY/S COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE WILL ALLOW FOR ANOTHER
DAY OF MARGINAL TO CRITICAL RELATIVE HUMIDITIES ACROSS THE FL
PANHANDLE. ALTHOUGH LONGER DURATIONS OF RELATIVE HUMIDITIES NEAR 30
TO 35 PERCENT CAN BE EXPECTED TODAY VS YESTERDAY...WINDS WILL
   GENERALLY BE LIGHTER.

   ...PORTIONS OF THE MID ATLANTIC...
A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT WILL EXIST ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC TODAY AS
COOL AND DRY NLY/NELY WINDS ALLOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES TO DROP BELOW
35 PERCENT ACROSS A WIDESPREAD REGION. INLAND PORTIONS OF VA/NC
COULD EXPERIENCE MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITIES NEAR 25 PERCENT.
SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR 10 TO 15 MPH GUSTING NEAR 20 TO 25 MPH MAY
BRIEFLY AFFECT AREAS WITH LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...BUT IN GENERAL THE
PRESSURE GRADIENT IS EXPECTED TO RELAX THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AS
DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE OFF THE COAST CONTINUES TO QUICKLY MOVE NEWD.
INLAND AREAS WHERE DRY LEAVES HAVE ALREADY FALLEN OR ARE FALLING MAY
PROVIDE LOCALLY DRIER FUELS FOR STARTS...BUT OVERALL...RELATIVELY
COOL TEMPERATURES...SHALLOW MIXING LAYER PREVENTING STRONG
GUSTS...AND FUEL CONDITIONS WILL PRECLUDE ANY CRITICAL OUTLINES.
