   VALID 201200Z - 211200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO THE PACIFIC NW. AT THE
SURFACE...A COLD FRONT WILL SURGE EWD ACROSS WA/OR...NRN CA...NWRN
NV...AND ID WITH WINDS INCREASING AND SHIFTING TO THE W. AHEAD OF
THE FRONT...SUSTAINED WINDS MAY APPROACH 15 MPH WITH STRONGER
GUSTS...ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S AND 60S WILL PREVENT
CRITICALLY LOW RHS. HOWEVER...SHIFTING WINDS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE
FRONT WILL BE A THREAT TO ANY ONGOING FIRES.

FARTHER S...WINDS WILL GRADUALLY VEER THROUGH THE DAY ALLOWING
OFFSHORE WINDS TO RETURN TO SRN CA. HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL
PREVAIL ACROSS SRN CA AND SWRN AZ.

FARTHER E...A COLD FRONT EXTENDING THROUGH THE GREAT LAKES AND SWWD
THROUGH THE MIDWEST/OH VALLEY REGION THEN WWD THROUGH KS WILL SLOWLY
MOVE EWD THROUGH THE DAY. AHEAD OF THE FRONT UNDER WEAK HIGH
PRESSURE...RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL DROP INTO THE 20S AND LOWER 30S
ACROSS A WIDESPREAD AREA FROM NEW ENGLAND SWD THROUGH THE MID
ATLANTIC AND SOUTHEAST. ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL REMAIN LIGHT AND LIMIT
THE OVERALL THREAT...GIVEN LOW RH AN ENHANCED FIRE THREAT MAY
EXIST...ESPECIALLY IN DROUGHT STRICKEN AREAS...AND WHERE LEAVES THAT
HAVE FALLEN OR ARE FALLING MAY PROVIDE LOCALLY DRIER FUELS FOR
   STARTS.

   ...SRN CA...
WINDS WILL GRADUALLY VEER THROUGH THE DAY AND OFFSHORE WINDS WILL
COMMENCE ACROSS COASTAL REGIONS OF SRN CA LATE MONDAY THROUGH EARLY
TUESDAY MORNING. AT THE SURFACE...THE FRONT WILL BE TO THE
N...ROUGHLY ORIENTED W-E ACROSS N/CNTRL CA AND CNTRL NV BY EARLY
TUESDAY MORNING. SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL QUICKLY BUILD TO THE N
   FOLLOWING THE FRONT.

RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL BE MARGINAL...ALTHOUGH GRADUALLY LOWERING
RHS CAN BE EXPECTED W OF THE COASTAL RANGES...ESPECIALLY NEAR SRN
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY...AND THE I-5 CORRIDOR IN THE LOS ANGELES AND
VENTURA COUNTY MOUNTAINS. AS THE PRESSURE GRADIENT SLOWLY INCREASES
OVERNIGHT...GUSTY WINDS CAN BE EXPECTED NEAR FAVORED CANYONS AND
PASSES. HOWEVER...STRONGER WINDS ARE EXPECTED THE FOLLOWING DAY.
POOR RH RECOVERY WILL BE LIKELY OVERNIGHT IN THESE AREAS AND FARTHER
   SE NEAR THE IMPERIAL VALLEY.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0239 AM CDT MON OCT 20 2008

   VALID 211200Z - 221200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA COASTAL AREAS...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN CA/SACRAMENTO VALLEY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER TROUGH WILL QUICKLY DIG SEWD ACROSS THE ROCKIES AND INTO
THE CNTRL PLAINS...WITH SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING EWD AND
SWD...SUBSEQUENTLY INCREASING THE PRESSURE GRADIENT ACROSS SRN CA BY
EARLY WED MORNING. HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST...WITH
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS W OF THE COASTAL RANGES IN SRN CA.

FARTHER N...DRY OFFSHORE FLOW...NLY SURFACE WINDS NEAR 15 TO 20 MPH
IN THE LOWER VALLEYS...AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL CONTRIBUTE TO
CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS ACROSS NRN CA.

ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE ROCKIES...CYCLOGENESIS WILL OCCUR IN THE HIGH
PLAINS...AND NWRN CO/ERN UT MAY EXPERIENCE LOW RH AND GUSTY WINDS AS
THIS OCCURS IN CONCERT WITH AN UPPER LEVEL JET MOVING SEWD THROUGH
   THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA COASTAL AREAS...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SANTA ANA WINDS...LOW RH...MODERATE TO SEVERE
   DROUGHT

SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SWD AND EWD WITH AN INCREASING
PRESSURE GRADIENT ACROSS SRN CA BY LATE TUESDAY THROUGH EARLY WED
MORNING. HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE W OF THE COASTAL
RANGES AS OFFSHORE FLOW LEADS TO COMPRESSIONAL HEATING. EXTREMELY
LOW RH VALUES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS WILL COMBINE WITH VERY DRY FUELS
AND GUSTY WINDS TO CREATE DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ALONG
AND W OF THE COASTAL RANGE. OVERNIGHT INTO WED MORNING...WINDS WILL
INCREASE AS THESE AREAS REMAIN HOT AND DRY. AREAS IN FAVORED CANYONS
AND PASSES WILL BE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE TO LOCALLY EXTREME
CONDITIONS...WITH GUSTS NEAR 50 TO 60 MPH. A LACK OF UPPER
SUPPORT/STRONGER WINDS ALOFT WILL PRECLUDE AN EXTREME OUTLINE AT
THIS TIME...ALTHOUGH AN ENHANCED FIRE THREAT WILL CERTAINLY EXIST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA/SACRAMENTO VALLEY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: LOW RH...SEVERE DROUGHT...LOCALLY STRONG WINDS

ALTHOUGH THE STRONGER JET WINDS WILL REMAIN E OF CA...NLY WINDS NEAR
15 TO 20 MPH WILL AFFECT PORTIONS OF THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY...WITH
STRONGER SPEEDS AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. RELATIVE HUMIDITIES IN THE
UPPER SINGLE DIGITS AND LOWER TEENS WILL AFFECT THE LOWER
VALLEYS...WITH POOR RH RECOVERY OVERNIGHT. GIVEN SEVERE DROUGHT
CONDITIONS...AN ENHANCED FIRE THREAT WILL EXIST.
