   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0356 AM CDT THU OCT 23 2008

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE OVER MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST.
THE SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE GREAT BASIN WHICH HAS BEEN
PRODUCING A MODERATE OFFSHORE WIND EVENT OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
WILL BEGIN TO WEAKEN DURING THE DAY...ALLOWING THE WINDS OVER
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO DECREASE ALTHOUGH THE HUMIDITY WILL REMAIN
   VERY LOW.

A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AT THE SURFACE AND ALOFT OVER THE CENTRAL
U.S. WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY EASTWARD INTO MISSOURI BY EARLY FRIDAY.
WITH A LARGE SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE NORTHEAST...COOL
AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL IN THE NORTHEAST WHILE SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE IN THE SOUTHEAST AHEAD OF THE DEEP LOW
   PRESSURE SYSTEM.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY DRY AIR...WARM TEMPERATURES...STRONG AND
   GUSTY WINDS...VERY DRY FUELS

A MODERATE OFFSHORE WIND EVENT WILL BE ONGOING EARLY THURSDAY ACROSS
PORTIONS OF SRN CALIFORNIA. NORTHEAST WINDS OF AROUND 15 TO 30 MPH
WITH SOME GUSTS TO 40 TO 50 MPH EARLY IN THE PERIOD WILL BEGIN TO
DIMINISH BY AFTERNOON INTO EARLY EVENING. IN THE COASTAL
LOCATIONS...WEAK ONSHORE WINDS MAY RETURN BY EVENING. TEMPERATURES
WILL BE WARM DURING THE DAY WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S AND 90S IN THE
LOWER ELEVATIONS. ACROSS THE AREA...HOWEVER...ALONG WITH THE VERY
DRY FUELS...THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL BE IN THE 5 TO 15 PERCENT
RANGE WITH VERY LITTLE RECOVERY EVEN DURING THE EVENING AND
ESPECIALLY REMAINING DRY AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THUS...AFTER THE
WINDS DECREASE...CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS MAY CONTINUE MAINLY
BECAUSE OF THE VERY LOW HUMIDITY AND VERY DRY FUELS IN MANY
   LOCATIONS.
