   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0103 AM CDT TUE OCT 28 2008

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE ERN AND NERN STATES WITH HIGH
PRESSURE SETTLING INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY AND GULF COAST STATES.
THE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL BE WEAKER THAN ON THE PREVIOUS DAY AND
WIND SPEEDS WILL BE WEAKER AS WELL.

TO THE W...A GENERAL UPPER RIDGE WILL EXTEND FROM THE WRN STATES
INTO THE PLAINS STATES...WITH A VERY DRY AIR MASS AT THE SURFACE. A
LEE SURFACE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN OVER THE CNTRL AND NRN HIGH
PLAINS...PARTLY IN RESPONSE TO A WEAK EMBEDDED UPPER SHORTWAVE
TROUGH MOVING INTO THE NRN ROCKIES. THIS WILL RESULT IN WARM...GUSTY
S WINDS OVER THE CNTRL AND NRN PLAINS.

   ...SERN STATES...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL SETTLE INTO THE REGION WITH VERY DRY WEATHER
PERSISTING. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL MAINLY BE IN THE 60S F WITH MIN
RH DROPPING INTO THE 20 PERCENT RANGE FROM THE LOWER MS VALLEY EWD
INTO THE CAROLINAS AS WELL AS CNTRL AND NRN FL. HIGHER VALUES INTO
THE 30 PERCENT RANGE ARE EXPECT OVER SRN FL. WINDS WILL BE MUCH
WEAKER THAN ON TUE...WITH SPEEDS AT OR BELOW 10 MPH. THUS...THE

   FIRE GROWTH DURING THE AFTERNOON.

   ...WRN DAKOTAS/NEB...ERN MT/WY...
A LEE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN DURING THE DAY ACROSS THE HIGH
PLAINS...INDUCING SLY WINDS OF 15-20 MPH WITH LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS.
TEMPERATURES WILL WARM INTO THE 60S AND 70S F...WITH MIN RH DROPPING
WELL INTO THE TEENS. THE GUSTY WINDS AND VERY LOW RH WILL INCREASE
THE THREAT OF FIRES...BUT OVERALL SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS WILL NOT
   REACH CRITICAL LEVELS.
