   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0123 AM CST MON DEC 08 2008

   VALID 081200Z - 091200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS NM INTO W TX AND WILL PHASE
WITH A LARGER SCALE TROUGH DIGGING SEWD ACROSS THE ROCKIES. LOW
PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN OVER THE OK/TX PANHANDLES AS A RESULT...WITH
WARM AND WINDY CONDITIONS FOR MUCH OF THE CNTRL/SRN PLAINS AND MS
VALLEY. THE SLY WINDS WILL HELP INCREASE MOISTURE LEVELS...AND WILL
MITIGATE ANY FIRE THREAT DESPITE STRONG WINDS.

TO THE E...HIGH PRESSURE WITH COVER MUCH OF THE ERN U.S. WITH MILD
AND DRY WEATHER CONTINUING. SELY FLOW OFF THE ATLANTIC AND GULF WILL
BRING RH LEVELS UP COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS DAY.

TO THE W...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD LATE IN THE PERIOD ALONG THE W
COAST...WHILE A STRONG AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE SPREADS SWD ACROSS THE
GREAT BASIN. THIS WILL BRING STRONG OFFSHORE WINDS AND POOR RH
RECOVERY TO PORTIONS OF SRN CA.

   ...ERN NM...W TX...WRN OK...
AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS NM INTO W TX TODAY. A
TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL EXIST DUE TO LOW PRESSURE OVER THE TX
AND OK PANHANDLES...AND SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH ARE
LIKELY. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30-40 MPH MAY OCCUR OVER FAR SW TX.
ALTHOUGH QUITE WINDY...RH LEVELS WILL BE MARGINAL..MAINLY IN THE 20
PERCENT RANGE. THE DRIEST AIR WILL BE OVER FAR SW TX...WHERE
LOCALIZED UPPER TEENS MAY OCCUR. IN ADDITION TO MARGINAL RH
LEVELS...SOME MID LEVEL CLOUDINESS IS LIKELY WITH THE UPPER WAVE.
ALTHOUGH THE MODERATE RH SUGGESTS A LESSER THREAT OF FIRE
STARTS...ANY FIRES THAT DO START COULD SPREAD QUICKLY GIVEN DRY
   FUELS AND STRONG WINDS.

   ...SRN CA LATE...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL SURGE SWD THROUGH THE GREAT BASIN AS AN UPPER
TROUGH AMPLIFIES TO THE E. STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL OCCUR OVERNIGHT
INTO TUE MORNING...WITH LOCALLY POOR RH LEVELS IN DOWNSLOPE AREAS.
HOWEVER...GIVEN RELATIVELY COOL TEMPERATURES/LACK OF PRE
CONDITIONING ON MONDAY...RH WILL NOT BE EXTREMELY LOW TUE MORNING.
DRIER CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP DURING THE DAY TUE.

   ...SERN STATES AND MID ATLANTIC...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL SLIDE EWD TO THE MID ATLANTIC COAST TODAY. THIS
WILL BRING THE DRIEST AIR INTO NC/VA WITH AN INCREASE IN RH LEVELS
FOR FL. WINDS WILL BE WEAK UNDER THE UPPER HIGH ACROSS NC AND
VA...AND TEMPERATURES ONLY IN THE 40S AND 50S F. WARMER TEMPERATURES
IN THE 60S F WILL OCCUR OVER MS/AL/SRN GA...BUT WINDS WILL BE LESS
THAN 10 MPH OUT OF THE SE.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0134 AM CST MON DEC 08 2008

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SOUTH CENTRAL TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE UPPER TROUGH WILL AMPLIFY ACROSS THE CNTRL U.S. WITH A RIDGE
OVER THE WRN STATES. EXTENSIVE PRECIPITATION WILL OCCUR ALONG A COLD
FRONT FROM THE GREAT LAKES SWWD INTO THE MS VALLEY AND CNTRL GULF
COAST DURING THE DAY...EXTENDING INTO NEW ENGLAND OVERNIGHT. BEHIND
THE FRONT...COLD AND WINDY CONDITIONS WILL BE FELT ACROSS THE PLAINS
STATES. PORTIONS OF S CNTRL TX WILL EXPERIENCE GUSTY WINDS AND
MODERATELY LOW RH IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE FRONT.

AS THE FRONT CONTINUES E...RH LEVELS WILL INCREASE DRAMATICALLY OVER
THE SERN STATES WITH SELY WINDS OFF THE GULF OF MEXICO AND ATLANTIC
   OCEAN.

MEANWHILE...A MODERATE SANTA ANA WIND EVENT WILL BE ONGOING ACROSS
SRN CA WITH HIGH PRESSURE ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN. LOW RH AND STRONG
WINDS ARE LIKELY ACROSS SRN CA...AS WELL AS ACROSS THE CO RIVER
   VALLEY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SOUTH CENTRAL TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY WINDS WITH COLD FRONT...LOW RH...SEVERE
   DROUGHT

A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH EARLY IN THE DAY WITH NLY WINDS
INCREASING TO 15-25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THE RH FORECAST IS A BIT
PROBLEMATIC AS IT DEPENDS ON THE RATE OF COOLING BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT. SOME GUIDANCE SUGGESTS MIN RH VALUES NEAR 30 PERCENT TUE
AFTERNOON...WHILE SOME PREDICT 20-25 PERCENT. GIVEN SEVERE DROUGHT
CONDITIONS IN PLACE...A CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER HAS BEEN ISSUED. IN
ADDITION...VERY STRONG N WINDS OVER 30 MPH WILL PERSIST DURING THE
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT BUT TEMPERATURES WILL COOL DRAMATICALLY.

   ...SRN CA...
GUSTY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING TUE MORNING AND WILL PERSIST THROUGHOUT
THE DAY. RH WILL DROP INTO THE TEENS AND POSSIBLY THE SINGLE DIGITS
WHERE STRONG DOWNSLOPE AND MIXING COEXIST. WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF
40 MPH ARE LIKELY THROUGH FAVORED PASSES AND CANYONS WITH MIN RH
NEAR 10-15 PERCENT. GUSTY WINDS AND POOR RH RECOVERY WILL CONTINUE
OVERNIGHT. WHILE A TYPICALLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER PATTERN WILL BE
OCCURRING...LOCAL AGENCIES SUGGEST FUEL CONDITIONS ARE NOT DRY
ENOUGH TO WARRANT A CRITICAL FIRE OUTLOOK.
