   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0324 AM CST SUN JAN 11 2009

   VALID 111200Z - 121200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A BROAD UPPER TROUGH WILL AFFECT THE ERN THIRD OF THE CONUS WITH A
STRONG PACIFIC RIDGE HUGGING THE W COAST. THE GENERAL NW FLOW REGIME
ACROSS THE CNTRL PORTION OF THE NATION WILL LEAD TO COOL AND DRY
WEATHER WITH HIGH PRESSURE...WHILE A STRONG AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE
OVER THE GREAT BASIN CREATES DRY GUSTY WINDS OVER SRN CA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY

A MODERATE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL EXIST EARLY SUN MORNING WITH
STRONG GUSTY WINDS ONGOING. RH WILL DROP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS AND
LOWER TEENS DURING THE DAY...WITH GUSTY WINDS PERSISTING. WIND GUSTS
OF 30-50 MPH ARE EXPECTED THROUGH PASSES AND CANYONS. THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT WILL STRENGTHEN AGAIN OVERNIGHT WITH VERY STRONG WINDS AND
POOR RH RECOVERY. WIND GUSTS LATE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY COULD BE
EXTREMELY STRONG. ALTHOUGH NOT CONTAINED WITHIN THE CRITICAL
AREA...FAR SRN CA INCLUDING THE SAN DIEGO AREA WILL ALSO EXPERIENCE
HIGH WINDS AND VERY LOW RH.

OVERALL FIRE THREAT WILL BE HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON FUEL CONDITIONS.
WHILE THE LAST MAJOR PRECIPITATION EVENT HAS MOISTENED
FUELS...PLEASE CONTACT LOCAL AGENCIES FOR FUEL CONDITIONS IN YOUR
   AREA.

   ...TX...
A MODIFYING AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE SRN PLAINS WILL RESULT IN
A MILD AND VERY DRY DAY. HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS MOST OF CNTRL AND
SRN TX WILL RANGE FROM 55-60 F...WITH MID 60S OVER DEEP S TX. MIN RH
VALUES IN THE TEENS WILL BE COMMON FOR MOST OF WRN...CNTRL AND SW
TX...WHILE VALUES IN THE 20 PERCENT RANGE WILL BE FOUND ALONG THE TX
COAST. WINDS WILL BE CALM OVER CNTRL TX NEAR THE HIGH CENTER...BUT
SPEEDS OF 10-15 MPH WILL OCCUR OVER DEEP S TX AND THE TX COAST.
DESPITE DROUGHT CONDITIONS...RELATIVELY COOL TEMPERATURES AND WEAK
SUSTAINED WINDS WILL MINIMIZE OVERALL FIRE THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0329 AM CST SUN JAN 11 2009

   VALID 121200Z - 131200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE SCALE UPPER TROUGH WILL COVER THE CNTRL AND ERN U.S. WITH A
RIDGE OVER THE W. A STRONG AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL REMAIN OVER
THE GREAT BASIN...CREATING VERY WINDY AND DRY WEATHER FOR SRN CA.
GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RH WILL ALSO BE FOUND ACROSS NRN CA.

ELSEWHERE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL EXTEND FROM TX EWD ALONG THE GULF
COAST. SWLY WINDS WILL RETURN TO TX AND OK...WITH VERY LOW RH. A
COLD FRONT WILL BRING STRONG NWLY WINDS TO NEB/KS/OK AS WELL...WITH
SHIFTING WINDS AND LOW RH CREATING NEAR CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS
FROM OK INTO N TX. COOL BUT DRY CONDITIONS WILL ALSO OCCUR OVER NRN
FL...GA AND SC WITH HIGH PRESSURE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG OFFSHORE WINDS AND LOW RH

VERY STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL BE ONGOING ACROSS SRN CA MON
MORNING...LIKELY IN EXCESS OF 50-60 MPH IN THE WINDIEST LOCALES. RH
WILL BEGIN LOW AND DIP FURTHER INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS LATER IN THE
DAY. THIS COMBINATION OF LOW RH AND HIGH WINDS WOULD ORDINARILY
RESULT IN EXTREME FIRE CONDITIONS...BUT OVERALL FUEL CONDITIONS ARE
THE MITIGATING FACTOR. STILL...FUELS CONTINUE TO DRY WITH EACH DAY
OF LOW RH. PLEASE DEFER TO LOCAL OFFICIALS FOR SPECIFIC FUEL
   CONDITIONS IN YOUR AREA.

VERY STRONG WINDS WILL PERSIST ALL DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT...WITH
   POOR RH RECOVERY.

   ...CNTRL OK INTO CNTRL TX...
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 10-15 MPH ON MONDAY AHEAD OF A WEAK
SURFACE TROUGH AND COLD FRONT. THIS BOUNDARY WILL BE DRAPED ACROSS
CNTRL OK INTO NW TX BY MONDAY AFTERNOON. S OF THE FRONT...RH WILL BE
VERY LOW...FROM 10-15 PERCENT. AS THE FRONT MOVES S...WINDS WILL
QUICKLY SHIFT TO NW AT 15-25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. WHILE THE
SHIFTING WINDS COULD RESULT IN ERRATIC FIRE BEHAVIOR WITH ANY
ONGOING FIRES...SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS EXPECTED MONDAY AFTERNOON DO
   NOT WARRANT A CRITICAL OUTLOOK.

   ...NRN FL...
IT WILL BE A MILD BUT DRY DAY ON MONDAY DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE IN A
POST FRONTAL REGIME. HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE ONLY FORECAST TO REACH
THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S F. WINDS WILL BE LIGHT...BUT MAY APPROACH
10 MPH OUT OF THE E ACROSS N CNTRL FL. LOW RH IN THE 25-35 PERCENT
RANGE AND DROUGHT CONDITIONS SUGGEST A MARGINAL AFTERNOON FIRE
THREAT DESPITE COOL TEMPERATURES AND WEAK WINDS.
