   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0215 AM CST WED MAR 04 2009

   VALID 041200Z - 051200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN CO...ERN NM...TX/OK
   PANHANDLES...SWRN KS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
VERY WARM AND WINDY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL OVER THE CNTRL U.S. WITH
AN UPPER RIDGE OVERHEAD. AIR WILL FLOW OUT OF THE ERN U.S. HIGH AND
INTO THE PLAINS WHERE IT WILL WARM AND DRY...WITH CRITICAL FIRE
CONDITIONS FROM CO INTO NWRN TX AS A RESULT. WINDY AND DRY
CONDITIONS WILL ALSO PREVAIL OVER THE SWRN U.S. AHEAD OF AN UPPER
TROUGH FROM NRN AZ INTO SRN UT...BUT TEMPERATURES AND RH LEVELS WILL
   NOT WARRANT A CRITICAL OUTLOOK.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN CO...ERN NM...TX/OK
   PANHANDLES...SWRN KS...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

A LEE LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL DEEPEN FROM WY INTO ERN CO THIS
AFTERNOON AHEAD OF AN UPPER TROUGH OVER CA. AN ALREADY DRY AIR MASS
IN PLACE WILL WARM SIGNIFICANTLY THIS AFTERNOON WITH HIGH
TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S TO LOWER 80S F...RESULTING IN MIN RH VALUES
IN THE 10-15 PERCENT RANGE. SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20-25 MPH
WITH HIGHER GUSTS...ESPECIALLY OVER ERN NM AND THE TX PANHANDLE. THE
STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH WILL COMBINE WITH DRY FUELS TO CREATE A FIRE
HAZARD MAINLY THIS AFTERNOON. RH WILL GRADUALLY RECOVER
   OVERNIGHT...ALTHOUGH SLOWLY...WHILE WINDS REMAIN GUSTY.

   ...SERN U.S...
HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE MID ATLANTIC WILL MAINTAIN DRY
WEATHER TODAY. WINDS WILL BE CALM FROM AL INTO THE CAROLINAS...WITH
ELY WINDS OF 10 MPH ACROSS THE FL PENINSULA. RH LEVELS OVER FL WILL
BE UP A BIT DUE TO ELY FLOW OFF THE ATLANTIC...BUT WILL STILL DROP
INTO THE 30 PERCENT RANGE FOR A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT GIVEN DRY
   FUELS.

   CO...ERN NM...WRN OK...TX/OK PANHANDLES...FAR SW KS...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL AND SRN NM...NWRN TX...CNTRL
   KS AND OK...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL SHIFT FROM THE CNTRL U.S. INTO THE TN/OH VALLEYS
AS A LOW AMPLITUDE UPPER TROUGH MOVES ACROSS THE NRN PLAINS/UPPER MS
VALLEY. STRONG SWLY FLOW OVER THE CNTRL AND SRN PLAINS WITH CREATE
EXTREMELY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE CNTRL/SRN HIGH
PLAINS WITH HIGHS WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY. ELSEWHERE...HIGH PRESSURE
WILL REMAIN OVER THE SERN STATES...WITH WARMING TEMPERATURES AND
   CONTINUED LOW AFTERNOON RH.

...EXTREMELY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CO FRONT RANGE AND SERN
   CO...ERN NM...WRN OK...TX/OK PANHANDLES...FAR SW KS...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH ALONG WITH WARM
   TEMPERATURES

A DEEPENING LOW OVER ERN CO COMBINED WITH HIGH PRESSURE TO THE E
WILL RESULT IN INCREASING WINDS ON WED. WINDS WILL INCREASE BY
MIDDAY TO 20-40 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS ESPECIALLY ALONG THE CO FRONT
RANGE AND NERN NM...EXTENDING NEWD ACROSS THE TX AND OK PANHANDLES.
IT WILL BE VERY WARM WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S AND 80S F.
STRONG MIXING AND DOWNSLOPE FLOW...ALONG WITH THE WARM TEMPERATURES
AND LOW DEWPOINTS WILL RESULT IN MIN RH VALUES FROM THE SINGLE
DIGITS INTO THE LOWER TEENS. THE END RESULT WILL BE A POTENTIALLY
DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER SETUP WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR RAPID FIRE
   GROWTH.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CNTRL AND SRN NM...NWRN TX...CNTRL
   KS AND OK...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

SURROUNDING THE EXTREME AREA...STRONG SWLY WINDS AROUND 30 MPH WITH
HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR OVER CNTRL NM BUT TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY
REACH THE 60S F. SERN NM INTO NW TX WILL EXPERIENCE VERY LOW RH IN
THE LOWER TEENS AND WARM TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S F...BUT SUSTAINED
WINDS WILL BE A BIT WEAKER THAN FARTHER N...FROM 20-25 MPH WITH
HIGHER GUSTS. AREAS FROM NW TX INTO CNTRL OK AND CNTRL KS WILL ALSO
EXPERIENCE STRONG WINDS OVER 30 MPH...BUT RH LEVELS WILL BE
   HIGHER...FROM 20-35 PERCENT. STILL...FUELS ARE RELATIVELY DRY
THROUGHOUT THE CRITICAL AREA...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW FIRES.

   ...FL...
SEVERE DROUGHT CONDITIONS REMAIN IN PLACE WITH KBDI VALUES IN EXCESS
OF 700 OVER MUCH OF CNTRL AND SRN FL. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL MAINLY
BE IN THE 70S WITH HIGH PRESSURE IN PLACE. WINDS WILL BE MAINLY
LIGHT EXCEPT ALONG THE E COAST FROM 10-15 MPH. BY AFTERNOON...MIN RH
SHOULD DROP INTO THE 30 PERCENT RANGE. THIS MAY RESULT IN A FEW
HOURS OF MARGINALLY CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS MAINLY INTERIOR CNTRL
   FL.
