   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0358 AM CDT THU APR 16 2009

   VALID 161200Z - 171200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A SLOW MOVING UPPER LOW/TROUGH WILL DRIFT EWD ACROSS THE FOUR
CORNERS STATES WITH LOW PRESSURE DEEPENING FROM SERN CO INTO SW TX.
STRONG WLY WINDS BEHIND A COLD FRONT MAY RESULT IN MARGINALLY
CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON OVER SE NM/SW TX. TO THE
E...STRONG SELY WINDS WILL BLOW ACROSS THE PLAINS WITH A HIGH
PRESSURE CENTER OVER THE GREAT LAKES. THIS HIGH WILL RESULT IN VERY
LOW RH FOR THE UPPER MS VALLEY...WHERE LOCAL DROUGHT CONDITIONS
PERSIST. ELSEWHERE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL ALSO RESULT IN LOW RH OVER
FL...AS WELL AS ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC.

   ...MN...WI...
VERY LOW RH VALUES IN THE TEENS WILL EXIST THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS WI
INTO FAR ERN MN DUE TO A NEARBY HIGH PRESSURE CENTER. HIGH
TEMPERATURES SHOULD GENERALLY REACH THE 60S F...WITH SLY WINDS
RANGING FROM 10 MPH OVER CNTRL WI TO 15 MPH OVER WRN MN WITH GUSTS
AROUND 20 MPH. THIS WILL RESULT IN MARGINALLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS FOR A FEW HOURS THIS AFTERNOON...GIVEN AREAS OF DROUGHT
   CONDITIONS.

   ...SERN NM...SWRN TX...
A CORRIDOR OF GUSTY WIND WILL EXIST OVER SRN NM AND SWRN TX TODAY
ALONG AND AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT. SW WINDS OF 20 MPH WITH GUSTS OF
20-30 MPH ARE ANTICIPATED WITH MIN RH IN THE TEENS. TEMPERATURES
WILL RANGE FROM THE 40S JUST BEHIND THE FRONT TO THE 60S AND 70S F
AHEAD OF IT. SLIGHTLY HIGHER RH LEVELS AND WEAKER WIND SPEEDS ARE
EXPECTED OVER W TX WITH MOISTURE INCREASING OUT OF THE SE.
THUS...ALTHOUGH LOCALLY CRITICAL CONDITIONS MAY OCCUR ON THE LEEWARD
SIDE OF THE GUADALUPE AND SRN SACRAMENTO MTNS...LARGE SCALE CRITICAL
   CONDITIONS ARE NOT EXPECTED.

   ...CNTRL/SRN FL...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL MAINTAIN DRY NELY FLOW ACROSS FLORIDA TODAY.
AFTERNOON HIGHS OF 75-80 F WILL RESULT IN MIN RH OF 25-35 PERCENT
INLAND...WITH ELY WINDS OF 10-15 MPH ESPECIALLY CNTRL/NRN FL.
DROUGHT PERSISTS SO THE LOW RH WILL ELEVATE THE FIRE THREAT THIS
   AFTERNOON.

   ...CNTRL VA...
PORTIONS OF CNTRL VA HAVE RECEIVED RELATIVELY LITTLE RAINFALL
COMPARED TO SURROUNDING AREAS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS. AFTERNOON
RH WILL DROP INTO THE 25-30 PERCENT RANGE WITH NELY WINDS OF 10-15
MPH. A RELATIVELY DEEP MIXING LAYER AND FULL SUNSHINE SUGGEST
   STRONGER GUSTS MAY OCCUR.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR ERN NY INTO NEW ENGLAND...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR FAR SE NM...SW TX...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER WILL LOW WILL CONTINUE SLOWLY EWD INTO THE CNTRL/SRN
PLAINS...WITH GUSTY WINDS ACROSS SRN NM AND SW TX ALONG WITH LOW RH.
TO THE E...THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE GREAT LAKES WILL FLATTEN AS A
STRONG UPPER TROUGH DIVES SEWD ACROSS NEW ENGLAND LATE IN THE
PERIOD. A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL DEVELOP OVER THE NE AS A LOW
DEEPENS OVER NB...RESULTING IN STRONG WIND GUSTS WHICH WILL COMBINE
WITH LOW RH TO CREATE CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS. ELSEWHERE...DRY
CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE UPPER MS VALLEY AS HIGH PRESSURE
WEAKENS AND TEMPERATURES WARM...WITH LOCALLY GUSTY SW WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - ERN NY INTO NEW ENGLAND...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WIND GUSTS...LOW RH

NWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH
THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS ACROSS THE ST. LAWRENCE
RIVER VALLEY. WITH HIGH PRESSURE TO THE W...WIND TRAJECTORIES WILL
BE QUITE DRY...WITH RH EASILY DROPPING INTO THE 20 PERCENT RANGE BY
AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF GUSTY WINDS...LOW RH AND AREAS OF
DRYNESS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A CRITICAL FIRE SITUATION FRI AFTERNOON.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FAR SE NM...SW TX...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND VERY LOW RH.

A WINDY AND DRY PATTERN WILL CONTINUE WITH A SLOW MOVING UPPER LOW
TO THE N. WLY WINDS NEAR 20 MPH WITH GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH IN
THE GUADALUPE MTNS ARE LIKELY...ALONG WITH MIN RH NEAR 10 PERCENT.

   ...CNTRL AND SRN FL...
FL WILL CONTINUE TO BE INFLUENCED BY HIGH PRESSURE TO THE N.
MODERATELY LOW RH NEAR 30-35 PERCENT IS LIKELY OVER INTERIOR S FL.
ALTHOUGH RH WILL BE MARGINAL DUE TO A SLIGHT INCREASE IN
MOISTURE...NELY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15-20 MPH...SUGGESTING AT
LEAST A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT DURING THE AFTERNOON AS FUELS ARE
   DRYING.
