   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0316 AM CDT TUE MAY 19 2009

   VALID 191200Z - 201200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NE NM...OK/TX PANHANDLES...ERN
   CO...WRN KS...WRN NEB...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SERN AL...SWRN GA...FL
   PANHANDLE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL SLIDE EWD INTO THE CNTRL U.S...CENTERED OVER MO
BY AFTERNOON. MEANWHILE...AN UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS THE
PACIFIC NW INTO THE NRN ROCKIES WITH STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH AHEAD
OF A COLD FRONT. ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE FROM NV
INTO SRN ID. MORE NUMEROUS STORMS WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS
UT/CO/AZ WITH MOISTURE INCREASING OUT OF THE S.

VERY STRONG WINDS WILL MATERIALIZE ACROSS THE CNTRL AND NRN PLAINS
AS LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER SE MT. THESE WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH
WARM TEMPERATURES AND LOW RH FOR A CRITICAL FIRE THREAT ACROSS MUCH
   OF THE CNTRL HIGH PLAINS.

TO THE E...A SURFACE HIGH WILL BE CENTERED OVER THE MID ATLANTIC
REGION...WITH LOW RH WIDESPREAD. NELY WINDS WILL BE ENHANCED ACROSS
THE SERN GULF COAST STATES DUE TO A DEEPENING LOW OVER SRN FL.
STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH MAY RESULT IN LOCALLY CRITICAL FIRE
CONDITIONS FROM SRN AL INTO SRN GA AND THE FL PANHANDLE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NE NM...OK/TX PANHANDLES...ERN
   CO...WRN KS...WRN NEB...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG WINDS...LOW RH AND WARM TEMPERATURES

IT WILL BE VERY WINDY AND WARM TODAY AS A LEE TROUGH AND SURFACE LOW
DEEPEN OVER MT. SUSTAINED SLY WINDS WILL BE NEAR 30 MPH...WITH GUSTS
OVER 40 MPH EXPECTED. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RISE INTO THE 90S
F...WITH MIN RH RANGING FROM THE TEENS FROM NE NM INTO WRN NEB...TO
THE LOWER TWENTIES ACROSS ERN PORTIONS OF THE CRITICAL AREA. SUCH
STRONG WINDS SUGGEST RAPID FIRE SPREAD WILL BE LIKELY THIS
AFTERNOON. BY LATE IN THE DAY...A FEW THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE LIKELY
ACROSS WRN CO INTO THE NEB PANHANDLE. THESE STORMS WILL HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE GUSTY AND ERRATIC WINDS. GUSTY WINDS WILL
   PERSIST WELL INTO THE EVENING.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - SERN AL...SWRN GA...FL PANHANDLE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

A MODERATELY STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL BE IN PLACE TODAY DUE TO
A DEEPENING LOW OVER SRN FL AND A HIGH TO THE N. DRY NELY WINDS OF
20-25 MPH ARE ANTICIPATED WITH MIN RH DIPPING INTO THE 25-30 PERCENT
RANGE. ALTHOUGH FUELS APPEAR TO BE ONLY MARGINALLY
DRY...UNSEASONABLY STRONG WINDS WILL HEIGHTEN THE THREAT WHERE FUELS
   ARE DRIEST.

   ...SERN ORE...SW ID...NWRN NV...NERN CA...
STRONG WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR AHEAD OF AN
ADVANCING COLD FRONT THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL LARGELY
BE IN THE 80S F...WITH MIN RH IN THE 10-15 PERCENT RANGE. IN
ADDITION...ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE LIKELY AHEAD OF THE
TROUGH DUE TO FAVORABLE MID LEVEL LIFT AND LAPSE RATES...DESPITE
LITTLE MOISTURE. HOWEVER...FUELS DO NOT APPEAR DRY ENOUGH FOR A
   SIGNIFICANT FIRE THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NERN NM...TX/OK PANHANDLES...WRN
   KS INTO FAR SRN NEB...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A SURFACE LOW WILL MOVE FROM THE DAKOTAS INTO NRN MN BY LATE
WED...WITH A TRAILING COLD FRONT INTO WRN NEB AND CO. AHEAD OF THIS
FRONT...A PLUME OF VERY WARM AND DRY AIR WILL SPREAD NEWD WITH VERY
STRONG WINDS...EXTENDING FROM THE SRN HIGH PLAINS INTO NRN WI AND
MI. TO THE E...THE UPPER RIDGE WILL BE CENTERED OVER THE MID
ATLANTIC...WHERE A SPRAWLING SURFACE HIGH WILL REMAIN. WARM AND DRY
WEATHER WILL EXIST UNDER THIS HIGH...WITH GENERALLY LIGHT WINDS
EXCEPT FOR THE ERN GULF COAST STATES WHERE THE EFFECTS OF A GULF LOW
   WILL ENHANCE WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NW IA...CNTRL AND ERN MN...CNTRL NRN
WI...NRN MI AND WRN MI U.P....

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: VERY STRONG WINDS COMBINED WITH WARM
   TEMPERATURES AND LOW RH

A PLUME OF VERY WARM AND MODERATELY DRY AIR WILL SPREAD NWD AHEAD OF
A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH EXTENDING SWWD OUT OF A LOW OVER NRN MN.
SUSTAINED SW WINDS NEAR 30 MPH ARE LIKELY...WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 50
MPH OVER MN AND WI. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL REACH THE 80S F...WHICH
WILL RESULT IN MIN RH LEVELS DIPPING INTO THE 20 PERCENT RANGE.
WHILE RH MAY BE MARGINAL IN SPOTS...SUCH STRONG WINDS SUGGEST RAPID
FIRE SPREAD WILL BE POSSIBLE WHERE DRY FUELS EXIST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NERN NM...TX/OK PANHANDLES...WRN KS
   INTO FAR SRN NEB...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS AND LOW RH

STRONG SLY WINDS OF 25-30 MPH ARE LIKELY AGAIN WED AHEAD OF A LOW
PRESSURE TROUGH THAT WILL EXTEND FROM NE CO INTO W CNTRL NEB BY
