   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0331 AM CDT THU JUL 23 2009

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR MUCH OF NRN WA...ID PANHANDLE...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A COMPACT BUT STRONG UPPER LOW WILL MOVE ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW
TODAY...BREAKING DOWN THE RIDGE A BIT AND RESULTING IN SCATTERED DRY
THUNDERSTORMS FOR MUCH OF WA AND NRN ID. MEANWHILE...WIDESPREAD MID
LEVEL MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO RESULT IN AFTERNOON WET AND DRY
STORMS FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE FOUR CORNERS STATES...WHILE HOT
AND DRY WEATHER PERSISTS ACROSS ORE/SRN ID/CA AND AZ. TO THE E...A
LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL SLIDE SWD ACROSS ERN MT INTO THE WRN
DAKOTAS...WITH SHIFTING WINDS AND CONTINUED HOT AND DRY WEATHER.

ELSEWHERE...AN UPPER TROUGH WILL REMAIN SITUATED OVER THE UPPER MS
VALLEY/GREAT LAKES REGION WITH COOL AND MOIST WEATHER...WHILE DRY
AND MILD CONDITIONS PERSIST WITH HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE MID MS
   VALLEY.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - MUCH OF NRN WA...ID PANHANDLE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS AFTER A VERY HOT AND
   DRY PERIOD

COOLING ALOFT WITH AN UPPER LOW WILL BREAK DOWN THE RIDGE AND RESULT
IN WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS FOR ALL OF NRN WA...EXTENDING EWD INTO
NRN ID AND NWRN MT LATE. GIVEN A VERY HOT AND DRY PERIOD PRECEDING
THESE STORMS...AND THE CONTINUED WARM AND DRY WEATHER TODAY...A HIGH
IGNITION EFFICIENCY RATE SEEMS PROBABLE WITH THE LIGHTNING THAT
OCCURS TODAY. IN ADDITION...A WLY PUSH OF MARINE AIR WILL OCCUR AS
THE UPPER LOW PASSES...WITH GUSTY WLY WINDS ACROSS THE CASCADES INTO
   NERN WA AND ORE.

   ...SRN WA/NRN ORE...
A PUSH OF MARINE AIR WILL SURGE EWD THROUGH THE GORGE AND ACROSS THE
CASCADES LATER TODAY AS AN UPPER TROUGH PASSES TO THE N. WLY WINDS
SHOULD INCREASE TO 15-25 MPH ACROSS NRN ORE/WRN WA BUT AS THEY
DO...RH WILL RISE. STILL...INITIAL SURGE OF WINDS INTO A WARM AND
DRY ENVIRONMENT MAY RESULT IN INCREASED FIRE DANGER FOR A COUPLE
   HOURS.

   ...E CNTRL ID/WRN MT...
UPPER HEIGHT FALLS WILL ARRIVE INTO THE AREA BY LATE IN THE DAY AND
INTO THE EVENING AS A TROUGH SKIRTS EWD ACROSS WA/NRN ID/ NWRN MT.
MOISTURE WILL BE INCREASING THROUGHOUT THE PERIOD. HOWEVER...THE
MOST FAVORABLE TIME FOR DRY THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE LATE AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING MAINLY ALONG THE BITTEROOTS AND INTO SWRN MT.
THERE...A DRY BOUNDARY LAYER WILL EXIST. COVERAGE OF LIGHTNING IS
NOT EXPECTED TO BE CRITICAL THERE...DUE TO SHORT WAVE RIDGING AHEAD
OF THE TROUGH AT PEAK HEATING TIME.

   ...ERN MT/WRN ND...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL SLIDE SEWD ACROSS MANITOBA...WITH THE BASE OF
THE TROUGH SKIRTING THE NRN PLAINS. AT THE SURFACE...A LOW PRESSURE
TROUGH WILL STRETCH FROM SRN MANITOBA ACROSS ND AND INTO ERN MT BY
00Z. NWLY WINDS NEAR 15 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH HIGHER GUSTS...WHILE
TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE 90S F. MIN RH WILL DROP INTO THE TEENS
OVER MT AND INTO THE 20S OVER ND.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0332 AM CDT THU JUL 23 2009

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR E CNTRL AND SERN ID...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE WRN STATES WITH MONSOONAL
MOISTURE SPREADING NWD OUT OF THE FOUR CORNERS AREA INTO THE NRN
ROCKIES. MOISTURE WILL OVERSPREAD A HOT AND DRY AIR MASS ACROSS SERN
ID WITH DRY THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. A COMPACT UPPER LOW WILL BECOME
NEARLY STATIONARY OVER WA AND NRN ID...WITH NUMEROUS WET
THUNDERSTORMS. TO THE E...A COLD FRONT AND LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL
EXTEND FROM IA SWWD INTO KS WITH DRY NWLY WINDS AND CONTINUED WARM
   TEMPERATURES.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - E CNTRL AND SERN ID...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORMS AFTER HOT AND DRY
   PERIOD

MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO STREAM NWD AROUND THE UPPER
RIDGE...AND AHEAD OF AN UPPER LOW OVER WA AND NRN ID. IT WILL REMAIN
VERY WARM AN DRY OVER SERN ORE INTO SW ID...WITH RH IN THE SINGLE
DIGITS AND TEENS. THIS DRY AIR WILL SPREAD EWD ACROSS SRN ID...WHILE
AT THE SAME TIME...MOISTURE FOR STORMS INCREASES OUT OF THE S.
THUS...AT LEAST ISOLATED DRY THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY IS ANTICIPATED
FOR E CNTRL INTO SERN ID...TRANSITIONING TO WET OVER MT AND WY.
