...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE INTO NRN CA...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INLAND LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE MTNS OF SANTA BARBARA AND SAN LUIS OBISPO
   LATE TONIGHT...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A STRONG UPPER TROUGH AND COLD FRONT WILL SINK SWD ACROSS THE FRONT
RANGE AND INTO THE CNTRL AND SRN HIGH PLAINS TODAY WITH MUCH COOLER
WEATHER AND STRONG N WINDS. TO THE W...AN UPPER RIDGE WILL BUILD
ALONG THE W COAST...WITH A SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH ALONG THE CA COAST
EXTENDING NWD INTO WRN ORE AND WA. VERY WARM AND EXTREMELY DRY
CONDITIONS WILL EXIST WITHIN THIS THERMAL TROUGH WITH GUSTY ELY
WINDS DUE TO HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN AND NRN ROCKIES.

ELSEWHERE...DRY AND MILD CONDITIONS WILL PERIST OVER THE NERN STATES
AND MID ATLANTIC WITH HIGH PRESSURE SURFACE AND ALOFT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - THE COLUMBIA GORGE INTO NRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY E WINDS AND VERY LOW RH

GUSTY E WINDS WILL BE ONGOING THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE THIS
MORNING AND WILL ALSO INCREASE ACROSS WRN ORE AWAY FROM THE COAST
DURING THE DAY. RH WILL DROP WELL INTO THE TEENS OVER MUCH OF
ORE...WITH SOME UPPER SINGLE DIGITS POSSIBLE AT PEAK HEATING. THE
VERY WARM AND DRY AIR WILL RESULT IN A MDT TO POSSIBLY HIGH HAINES
INDEX MAINLY W OF THE CASCADES. OVERNIGHT...E WINDS WILL PERSIST
WITH RH REMAINING IN THE TEENS AND TWENTIES.

FARTHER S INTO NRN CA...E WINDS WILL ALSO BE ONGOING THIS MORNING
ALONG THE W SLOPES OF THE SIERRA...AND WILL REMAIN GUSTY THROUGHOUT
THE DAY. NLY WINDS WILL ALSO DEVELOP ACROSS THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY.
MIN RH WILL DROP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS LOCALLY...AND THERE WILL BE
LITTLE OR NO RECOVERY OVERNIGHT IN THE MTNS AND HILLS. A MDT HAINES
INDEX IS ALSO LIKELY IN THESE AREAS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INLAND LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE MTNS OF SANTA BARBARA AND SAN LUIS OBISPO
   LATE TONIGHT...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY NELY WINDS LATE AND LOW RH

IT WILL BE VERY WARM AND DRY TODAY INLAND SRN CA...WITH HIGHS WELL
INTO THE 90S AND MIN RH DROPPING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS LOCALLY.
NEAR THE COAST...A MARINE LAYER WILL REMAIN ALL DAY WHICH WILL KEEP
RH LEVELS UP. MEANWHILE...HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO ADVANCE
SWD ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND INTO SRN CA. GUSTY OFFSHORE WINDS
WILL DEVELOP LATE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUE MORNING OVER THE VALLEYS AND
MTNS FROM SANTA BARBARA INTO LOS ANGELES COUNTIES. MOST OF THE WIND
GUSTS WILL BE CONFINED TO PASSES AND CANYON AREAS. THESE WINDS WILL
BE QUITE DRY WITH RH REMAINING EXTREMELY LOW...FROM THE SINGLE
   DIGITS INTO THE LOWER TEENS.

...SRN NV AND SRN UT INTO NWRN NM...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO DIVE SWD ACROSS THE ERN ROCKIES AND
INTO THE CNTRL AND SRN HIGH PLAINS TODAY WITH A COLD FRONT EXTENDING
FROM CNTRL NM/AZ EWD INTO OK BY LATE AFTERNOON. STRONG NWLY WINDS
WILL OCCUR ON THE BACKSIDE OF THIS TROUGH...FROM SRN UT INTO NWRN
NM. DESPITE COOLER TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S AND 70S...MIN RH WILL
MANAGE TO DROP INTO THE TEENS AND TWENTIES. THE COOLER TEMPERATURES
WILL RESULT IN RELATIVELY SHALLOW MIXING LAYERS WHICH WILL TEND TO
MITIGATE THE THREAT. OF SPECIAL NOTE...SWATHS OF LIGHTHING WERE
NOTED FROM SERN UT INTO NERN AZ AND NWRN NM ON SUNDAY. IT IS
POSSIBLE THAT A FEW FIRES COULD FLARE UP LATER TODAY AS RH LOWERS
   AND WINDS PICK UP.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0414 AM CDT MON SEP 21 2009

   VALID 221200Z - 231200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INLAND SRN CA...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR NRN CA NWD TO THE COLUMBIA
   GORGE...
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR FAR SRN NV INTO THE CO RIVER
   VALLEY OF NWRN AZ/SERN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD OVER THE PACIFIC NW ON TUE AS
AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER LOW SPINS OVER THE CNTRL HIGH PLAINS.
WIDESPREAD HOT AND EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST UNDER THE
RIDGE FROM SW AZ/SRN CA NWD INTO WRN OREGON. GUSTY E WINDS WILL
PERSIST OVER ORE AND NRN CA...WITH OFFSHORE FLOW ACROSS SRN CA AS
WELL. ELSEWHERE...LOW RH WILL PERSIST OVER NEW ENGLAND WITH MILD
   TEMPERATURES AND LIGHT WINDS.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INLAND SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: LOCALLY GUSTY NELY WINDS...LONG DURATION OF
EXTREMELY LOW RH AND A HIGH HAINES INDEX

OFFSHORE FLOW WILL BE ONGOING TUE MORNING THROUGH PASSES AND CANYONS
WITH MAXIMUM GUSTS ON THE ORDER OF 30-40 MPH. RH LEVELS WILL BEGIN
THE DAY LOW...AND WILL REACH EXTREME LEVELS DURING THE DAY. HIGH
TEMPERATURES WILL APPROACH 100 F AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE
COAST...WITH RH VALUES AS LOW AS 3-5 PERCENT. GIVEN SUCH AN
EXTREMELY HOT AND DRY PROFILE...A HIGH HAINES INDEX WILL EASILY BE
ACHIEVED. WHILE A MARINE LAYER WILL HOLD NEAR THE COAST MUCH OF THE
DAY...THE DRY AIR IS FORECAST TO ERODE THIS LAYER BY WED MORNING
WITH VERY LOW RH VALUES REACHING THE COAST. HOWEVER...WIND SPEEDS
SHOULD REMAIN RELATIVELY WEAK NEAR THE COAST.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - NRN CA NWD TO THE COLUMBIA GORGE...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: GUSTY E WINDS...VERY LOW RH AND A HIGH HAINES
   INDEX

GUSTY ELY WINDS WILL BE ONGOING TUE MORNING ALONG THE W SLOPES OF
THE SIERRA...THE W SLOPES OF THE CASCADES...AND THROUGH THE COLUMBIA
GORGE. RH VALUES TUE MORNING WILL BEGIN THE DAY VERY LOW...WITH
TEENS OVER THE MTNS OF NWRN CA AND ALONG THE SIERRA W SLOPES.
ANOTHER VERY WARM DAY WILL YIELD EXTREMELY LOW RH VALUES INTO THE
SINGLE DIGITS AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE COAST. SUCH TEMPERATURE AND
MOISTURE PROFILES WILL EASILY RESULT IN A HIGH HAINES INDEX. E WINDS
WILL PICK UP AGAIN MAINLY ALONG W SLOPES OF THE SIERRA WITH LITTLE
   RH RECOVERY OVERNIGHT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - FAR SRN NV INTO THE CO RIVER VALLEY
   OF NWRN AZ/SERN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: EXTREMELY LOW RH LEVELS AND GUSTY N WINDS

VERY DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL FROM THE SRN CA DESERTS INTO AZ AND
SRN NV IN A NLY FLOW REGIME. MIN RH WILL EASILY DIP INTO THE SINGLE
DIGITS WITH N WINDS SUSTAINED AT AROUND 15-20 MPH. HIGHER GUSTS OVER
30 MPH ARE LIKELY THROUGH THE CO RIVER VALLEY.
