DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK RESENT 1
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0906 AM CDT WED SEP 23 2009

   VALID 231200Z - 241200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR INLAND SRN CA...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE WILL SHIFT SLIGHTLY EWD OVER THE PACIFIC NW...BUT
WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FROM CA NEWD INTO SW CANADA. VERY HOT AND DRY
CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL...EXCEPT ALONG THE NW COAST WHERE A MARINE
PUSH WILL OCCUR. AN E-W PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN HIGH PRESSURE OVER
THE ROCKIES AND GREAT BASIN AND A SURFACE THERMAL TROUGH ALONG THE W
COAST WILL AGAIN RESULT IN LOCALLY GUSTY E WINDS FROM SRN CA TO THE
W SLOPES OF THE NRN SIERRA AND CASCADES. TO THE E...AN UPPER LOW
WILL REMAIN STATIONARY OVER THE CNTRL PLAINS...RESULTING IN COOL
   CONDITIONS THERE.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - INLAND SRN CA...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: LONG DURATION OF EXTREMELY LOW RH AND GUSTY
   OFFSHORE FLOW

NELY WIND GUSTS OF 25-35 MPH WILL LIKELY BE ONGOING THIS MORNING
BELOW FAVORED PASSES AND CANYONS ACROSS COASTAL SRN CA. RH LEVELS
WILL BEGIN THE DAY VERY LOW...AND WILL LOWER FURTHER AWAY FROM THE
COAST TO 3-5 PERCENT BY PEAK HEATING WITH HIGHS OVER 100 F. THE
EXTREMELY DRY AIR MASS...LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHLY UNSTABLE
ENVIRONMENT THIS AFTERNOON WILL AGAIN RESULT IN FAVORABLE CONDITIONS
FOR FIRE GROWTH. OVERNIGHT...THERE WILL BE LITTLE RH RECOVERY AWAY
FROM THE COAST...AND WINDS WILL REMAIN GUSTY IN FAVORED AREAS
ALTHOUGH SOME WEAKENING IS LIKELY...ESPECIALLY INTO THU.

   ...NRN CA INTO CNTRL OREGON...
A VERY DRY AIR MASS IS ALREADY IN PLACE THIS MORNING WITH AREAS OF
VERY LOW RH. RH LEVELS WILL DROP FURTHER TODAY WITH HEATING...AND
WILL REACH THE SINGLE DIGITS TO LOWER TEENS FROM THE CASCADES INTO
NRN CA. ALONG THE COAST...COOLER MARINE AIR WILL PUSH EWD AS THE
THERMAL TROUGH SHIFTS E...RESULTING IN MUCH HIGHER RH VALUES FOR
COASTAL NRN CA AND WRN OREGON. STILL...A VERY HOT...DRY...AND
UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE WILL EXIST LATER TODAY WITH A HIGH HAINES INDEX.
ALTHOUGH WINDS WILL BE LESS THAN ON TUE...CONDITIONS WILL FAVOR
GROWTH OF EXISTING FIRES. IN ADDITION...ALTHOUGH THE MARINE PUSH
WILL RAISE RH LEVELS...THE CHANGE IN WIND DIRECTION TO WLY MAY PROVE
SIGNIFICANT AT THE SPOT FORECAST LEVEL.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0334 AM CDT WED SEP 23 2009

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE WRN U.S. WILL BREAK DOWN ACROSS THE PACIFIC
NW LATE THU...WITH A COLD FRONT EXTENDING FROM NRN ID SWWD ACROSS
CNTRL OREGON AND INTO NRN CA. COOLER TEMPERATURES BUT GUSTY WINDS
WILL EXIST WITH THIS FRONTAL PASSAGE. TO THE S...LIGHT OFFSHORE FLOW
WILL CONTINUE INTO SRN CA...BUT WILL WEAKEN DURING THE DAY AS THE
PRESSURE GRADIENT RELAXES. AN EXTREMELY DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN IN
PLACE OVER SRN CA...EXCEPT ALONG THE COAST.

...ERN WA INTO CNTRL AND ERN ORE...FAR NRN CA...
A WEAK UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS WA WITH A SURFACE
COLD FRONT EXTENDING FROM NRN ID ACROSS CNTRL ORE AND INTO FAR NRN
CA BY THU AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED NWLY WINDS BEHIND THIS FRONT WILL
GENERALLY RANGE FROM 10-15 MPH...BUT LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS ARE LIKELY
ACROSS THE E SLOPES OF THE WA CASCADES AND THROUGH THE COLUMBIA
GORGE. ALONG WITH THE WINDS WILL COME RISING RH LEVELS...FROM 15-25
PERCENT. AHEAD OF THE FRONT INTO SERN ORE AND INTO NRN CA...RH WILL
REMAIN LOWER AT NEAR 10 PERCENT...BUT WINDS WILL BE WEAK.
THUS...NEAR CRITICAL CONDITIONS DUE TO EITHER GUSTY WINDS AND
MARGINALLY LOW RH OR VERY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS WITH NO WIND ARE
   LIKELY.

   ...INLAND SRN CA...
AN EXTREMELY DRY AIR MASS WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA TODAY. LITTLE TO
NO RH RECOVERY WILL HAVE OCCURRED INTO THU MORNING...AND STRONG
HEATING WILL AGAIN RESULT IN SINGLE DIGIT RH AS LOW AS 3 PERCENT.
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS ARE LIKELY
INITIALLY...BUT SPEEDS SHOULD DECREASE WITH TIME AS THE PRESSURE
GRADIENT WEAKENS. LIGHT OFFSHORE FLOW INTO FRI MORNING WILL AGAIN
RESULT IN AREAS OF POOR RH RECOVERY.
