   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0301 AM CDT THU SEP 24 2009

   VALID 241200Z - 251200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER RIDGE AXIS WILL EXTEND FROM NRN CA INTO MT...BUT WILL
WEAKEN AS AN UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH SKIRTS THE PACIFIC NW. VERY HOT
AND DRY WEATHER WILL PERSIST UNDER THIS RIDGE...WITH FAVORABLE FIRE
GROWTH CONDITIONS DURING THE AFTERNOON DESPITE RELATIVELY WEAK
   WINDS.

ELSEWHERE...COOLER AND DRIER WEATHER WILL PREVAIL ACROSS THE NERN
STATES IN A POST FRONTAL AIR MASS...AND AN UPPER LOW WILL REMAIN
STATIONARY OVER THE CNTRL PLAINS...PROVIDING COOL CONDITIONS AND
LOCALIZED AFTERNOON SHOWERS FROM CO INTO THE MID MS VALLEY.

   ...INLAND SRN CA...
LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS WILL EXIST THIS MORNING NEAR WIND PRONE PASSES
AND CANYONS WITH LOW RH TO START THE DAY. VERY LOW RH INTO THE
SINGLE DIGITS WILL AGAIN EXIST WITH VERY WARM TEMPERATURES OVER 100
F INLAND. WHILE LOCALIZED WIND GUSTS TO 20 MPH WILL REMAIN
POSSIBLE...WINDS WILL GENERALLY DECREASE THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITH A
WEAKER PRESSURE GRADIENT. STILL...THE LONG DURATION OF HOT AND VERY
DRY CONDITIONS WILL CREATE A VERY UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE FAVORABLE FOR
   FIRE GROWTH.

   ...CNTRL AND SERN OREGON...
A WEAK UPPER TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS WA THIS AFTERNOON...WITH A LOW
PRESSURE TROUGH FROM ERN WA INTO SERN ORE. NWLY WINDS OF 10-15 MPH
WILL EXIST W OF THIS TROUGH...WITH RH GENERALLY IN THE 15-20 PERCENT
RANGE. LOWER RH NEAR 10 PERCENT IS LIKELY OVER SERN ORE...BUT WINDS
WILL BE LIGHT THERE. IN ADDITION...VERTICAL TEMPERATURES AND
HUMIDITY PROFILES WILL BE A BIT LESS FAVORABLE FOR EXISTING FIRE
GROWTH AS COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS TWO DAYS.

   ...N CNTRL AND NERN MT...
A WEAK SURFACE LOW PRESSURE TROUGH WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE E SLOPES
TODAY...AN EXTENSION OF A STRONGER TROUGH EXTENDING N INTO CANADA.
AS A RESULT...SLY WINDS WILL INCREASE AND BY AFTERNOON...SUSTAINED
SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH APPEAR LIKELY WITH LOCALLY HIGHER GUSTS. RH
SHOULD DIP INTO THE MID TEENS FOR A MARGINAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT
   THIS AFTERNOON.
