   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0302 AM CDT MON SEP 28 2009

   VALID 281200Z - 291200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR PORTIONS OF CNTRL/ERN ORE...NERN
   CA...NWRN NV...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VIGOROUS UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE NERN PACIFIC WILL DIG SWD
ALONG THE PACIFIC NW/NRN CA COAST THROUGH EARLY TUE. DOWNSTREAM
RIDGE AXIS WILL SHIFT EWD FROM THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST ACROSS THE
ROCKIES ONTO THE GREAT PLAINS. A SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL PUSH INLAND
ACROSS THE PACIFIC NW AS A CYCLONE DEEPENS ACROSS SRN BRITISH
   COLUMBIA.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - PORTIONS OF CNTRL/ERN ORE...NERN
   CA...NWRN NV...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / ABNORMAL DRYNESS TO
   SEVERE DROUGHT

LOW/MID-LEVEL SWLYS WILL STRENGTHEN IN ADVANCE OF THE UPPER-LEVEL
SHORT WAVE TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED SURFACE COLD FRONT APPROACHING THE
PACIFIC NW. A DEEPLY MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER WILL AID IN WIDESPREAD
SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH BY LATE AFTERNOON. WITH
TEMPERATURES WARMING PRIMARILY INTO THE UPPER 70S AND 80S...RH
VALUES WILL FALL TO BETWEEN 8 AND 15 PERCENT.

   ...N-CNTRL MT...
LOCALIZED CRITICAL CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP DURING MID TO LATE
AFTERNOON. DESPITE A STEEP LOW-LEVEL INVERSION LIMITING THE DEPTH OF
THE BOUNDARY LAYER...A TIGHTENING SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL AID
IN SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS NEAR 20 MPH. THE SELY LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL
LEAD TO DOWNSLOPE WARMING/DRYING OFF HIGHER TERRAIN AND RH VALUES
DROPPING TO BETWEEN 15 AND 20 PERCENT.

   ...E-CNTRL/S-CNTRL NV...
ALTHOUGH LOWER TROPOSPHERIC FLOW WILL NOT INCREASE TO THE DEGREE OF
THE CRITICAL AREA TO THE NW...A SHORT-DURATION OF SUSTAINED SURFACE
WINDS APPROACHING 20 MPH SHOULD DEVELOP IN THE LATE AFTERNOON GIVEN
VERY DEEPLY MIXED THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES. THIS WILL BE JUXTAPOSED
WITH LOW RH VALUES OF 5 TO 10 PERCENT AND RESULT IN AN ENHANCED FIRE
   WEATHER THREAT.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0359 AM CDT MON SEP 28 2009

   VALID 291200Z - 301200Z

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR CNTRL/SRN NV...SRN/ERN UT...NWRN
   AZ/CO...CNTRL/SRN WY...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A HIGHLY AMPLIFIED UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH ALONG THE PACIFIC NW/NRN CA
COAST WILL GRADUALLY PROGRESS INLAND INTO THE INTERMOUNTAIN
WEST/GREAT BASIN BY EARLY WED. LEE CYCLOGENESIS WILL OCCUR IN THE
NRN HIGH PLAINS...WITH AN ATTENDANT COLD FRONT DRAPED SWWD THROUGH
THE CNTRL GREAT BASIN TUE AFTERNOON.

   ...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA - CNTRL/SRN NV...SRN/ERN UT...NWRN
   AZ/CO...CNTRL/SRN WY...

PRIMARY CONDITIONS: STRONG WINDS / LOW RH / RECENT DRYNESS

A BROAD SWATH OF MODERATE TO STRONG LOW/MID-LEVEL SWLYS WILL
OVERSPREAD MUCH OF THE CNTRL/SRN GREAT BASIN TOWARDS THE NRN HIGH
PLAINS BY EARLY EVENING ON TUE. STEEP LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL AID
IN MIXING AND WIDESPREAD SUSTAINED SURFACE WINDS FROM 20 TO 30 MPH.
GREATER UNCERTAINTY LIES WITH THE DEGREE OF MOISTENING DOWNSTREAM OF
THE UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH...WHICH SHOULD AT LEAST LEAD TO INCREASING
HIGH-BASED CLOUD COVERAGE RETARDING INSOLATION. NEVERTHELESS...WITH
ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT AND AN ANTECEDENT
DRY AIR MASS...RH VALUES SHOULD STILL DIP BELOW THE CRITICAL
THRESHOLD OF 15 PERCENT IN MOST LOCALES.
