   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0317 AM CDT SAT OCT 17 2009

   VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

   ...SYNOPSIS...
THE UPPER RIDGE OVER THE WRN U.S. WILL FLATTEN AND SHIFT EWD INTO
THE ROCKIES/HIGH PLAINS BY SUN AFTERNOON...AS AN UPPER TROUGH
IMPINGES UPON THE W COAST. THIS WILL SHUNT A WARM AND DRY AIR MASS
EWD FROM THE GREAT BASIN INTO THE FOUR CORNERS STATES. WINDS WILL
INCREASE WITH THE TROUGH FOR A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT OVER SERN
NV...UT...AND NRN AZ. TO THE E...A STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL
EXIST ACROSS THE CNTRL AND SRN PLAINS WITH STRONG SLY WINDS AND
WARMING TEMPERATURES. FARTHER E...A STRONG UPPER TROUGH AXIS WILL
REMAIN ALONG THE ERN SEABOARD WITH COOL AND DRY HIGH PRESSURE FROM
THE LOWER MS VALLEY EWD ALONG THE GULF COAST AND MID ATLANTIC

   ...SERN U.S...
IT WILL BE DRIER ON SUNDAY WITH MIN RH DROPPING INTO THE 25-35
PERCENT RANGE ALONG THE GULF COAST AND OVER INTERIOR FL IN A POST
FRONTAL AIR MASS. NWLY WINDS NEAR 15 MPH ARE ALSO EXPECTED...WITH
HIGHER GUSTS. THE LOWERING RH AND GUSTY WINDS SHOULD RESULT IN AT
LEAST A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE GREATEST FIRE
THREAT WILL BE FROM SERN GA INTO NERN AND ERN FL WHERE ELEVATED KBDI
LEVELS EXIST DUE TO RELATIVE DRYNESS.

   ...SERN NV...SRN UT...NRN AZ...
LOW PRESSURE WILL DEEPEN OVER NV ON SUNDAY AS AN UPPER TROUGH
APPROACHES FROM THE W. A DRY AIR MASS WILL ALREADY BE IN PLACE...AND
RH WILL DROP INTO THE MID TEENS BY AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL INCREASE
WITH TIME...AND SUSTAINED SW WINDS OF 15-20 MPH ARE LIKELY WITH
   HIGHER GUSTS.

   ...ERN NM...SW KS...OK/TX PANHANDLE...WRN OK...
STRONG SWLY WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WILL MATERIALIZE SUNDAY AS A LEE
TROUGH DEEPENS OVER THE CNTRL HIGH PLAINS. THE AIR MASS WILL BE
DRY...WITH MIN RH AS LOW AS THE TEENS IN ERN NM...AND NEAR 30
PERCENT OVER WRN OK. GIVEN THAT FUELS ARE NOT PARTICULARLY DRY...AND
MARGINAL RH LEVELS...THE FIRE THREAT SHOULD NOT REACH CRITICAL
   LEVELS.
