...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SW AND W CNTRL TX...

CURRENT FORECAST IS ON TRACK AND ONLY MADE MINOR TWEAKS TO THE
CRITICAL AREA. 12Z FORECAST SOUNDINGS STILL INDICATE DEEPLY MIXED
BOUNDARY LAYER TO AROUND 8 TO 10 KFT. MID LEVEL FLOW IS NOT AS
STRONG AS IT WAS FRI BUT GUSTY W/NWLY WINDS AROUND 35 MPH WILL STILL
BE LIKELY THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. RH VALUES HAVE ALREADY FALLEN INTO
THE UPPER TEENS TO LOW 20S IN MANY LOCATIONS PER 16Z SFC OBS. EXPECT
MIN AFTERNOON RH VALUES IN THE 8 TO 16 PERCENT RANGE. BOUNDARY LAYER
FLOW WILL DECREASE THIS EVENING AND TEMPERATURES WILL FALL...ENDING
   CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

   ..STOPPKOTTE.. 03/27/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0323 AM CDT SAT MAR 27 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VERTICALLY STACKED SFC/UPPER LOW WILL MOVE EWD ACROSS KS/OK AND
INTO MO/AR BY 00Z...WITH SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS IN THOSE AREAS ALONG
WITH COOL TEMPERATURES AND STRONG WIND. UPPER RIDGING WILL EXIST
EITHER SIDE OF THIS LOW...WITH AXES CENTERED ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN
AS WELL AS ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC. DRY HIGH PRESSURE WILL RESIDE AT
THE SURFACE AS WELL...RESULTING IN MAINLY DRY WEATHER ACROSS THE
CONUS. A COMBINATION OF GUSTY NW WINDS AND LOW RH WILL EXIST OVER
MUCH OF CNTRL AND WRN TX...WITH LOCALLY CRITICAL FIRE CONDITIONS
   THIS AFTERNOON.

   ...SW/W-CNTRL TX...
NWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20-25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS OVER 30 MPH
AS STRONG HEATING HELPS TO MIX WINDS TO THE SURFACE. A VERY DRY AIR
MASS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE...AND MIN RH IN THE TEENS AND POSSIBLY
SINGLE DIGITS IS LIKELY BY LATE AFTERNOON. STRONG HEATING AND MIXING
WILL ALSO RESULT IN AN UNSTABLE LOWER ATMOSPHERE WHICH WILL FURTHER
ENHANCE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL IN AREAS WHERE FUELS REMAIN CURED.

   ...SRN CA...
GUSTY OFFSHORE FLOW WILL OCCUR TODAY MAINLY BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS
WITH A STRONG HIGH PRESSURE CENTER OVER NV. WHILE RH WILL DROP INTO
THE TEENS AND SINGLE DIGITS INLAND...FUELS REMAIN TOO MOIST FOR A
   CRITICAL FIRE THREAT.

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH AND SURFACE LOW WILL MOVE EWD OUT OF THE MID MS
VALLEY AND INTO THE MID ATLANTIC BY MON MORNING WITH WETTING RAINS
ACROSS THOSE AREAS. BEHIND THIS SYSTEM...DRY HIGH PRESSURE WILL
ENVELOPE THE CNTRL AND WRN STATES...AS WELL AS THE GULF COAST BEHIND

LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS SUN AFTERNOON. THE DRIEST WEATHER WILL
EXTEND FROM THE DESERT SW EWD INTO THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY OF TX WHERE
   GUSTY WINDS WILL OCCUR.
