   1122 AM CDT THU MAY 20 2010

   VALID 201700Z - 211200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

ONGOING FORECAST IS ON TRACK AND NO CHANGES REQUIRED.

   ..STOPPKOTTE.. 05/20/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0330 AM CDT THU MAY 20 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
VERY WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL OVER THE SRN GREAT
BASIN/FOUR CORNERS STATES IN BETWEEN UPPER TROUGHS. ONE TROUGH WILL
BE OVER THE CNTRL PLAINS/MID MO RIVER VALLEY WITH COOL CONDITIONS
AND RAIN...AND ANOTHER WILL EXTEND FROM THE PACIFIC NW INTO THE NRN
ROCKIES. AT THE SURFACE...A COLD FRONT WILL EXTEND FROM ERN MT INTO
CNTRL UT AND INTO SRN CA. THE PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL STRENGTHEN OVER
THE NRN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON IN RESPONSE TO A LOW TO THE W AND A
HIGH TO THE E. FARTHER E...GENERALLY WINDY AND DRY WEATHER WILL
EXIST ACROSS NEW ENGLAND AS A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH PASSES.

   ...NRN PLAINS...
STRONG SELY WINDS SUSTAINED AT 25-30 ARE LIKELY BY AFTERNOON. HIGH
TEMPERATURES IN THE 70S WILL RESULT IN MIN RH READINGS OF 25-35
PERCENT FROM THE CNTRL DAKOTAS INTO MN AND WI. HOWEVER...THE
STRONGEST WINDS WILL NOT BE COLOCATED WITH THE LOWEST RH. STILL...AN
ELEVATED FIRE THREAT IS LIKELY GIVEN AREAS OF DROUGHT.

   ...NEW ENGLAND...
NWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE TO NEAR 15 MPH SUSTAINED WITH HIGHER GUSTS
AS A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH MOVES THROUGH. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 80
ARE LIKELY...WITH MIN RH DIPPING INTO THE 30 PERCENT RANGE BY LATE
AFTERNOON. RECENT PRECIPITATION ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE AREA WILL
   HELP MITIGATE THE FIRE THREAT.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AREA FOR SRN NV...SERN CA...PARTS OF NRN
AZ...FAR NWRN NM AND SWRN CO...

...SRN NV...SERN CA...PARTS OF NRN AZ...FAR NWRN NM AND SWRN CO...
COMPLEX FORECAST SITUATION SETTING UP FOR FRI ACROSS THE SWRN CONUS.
WHILE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE TO THE CRITICAL AREA THE FORECAST
GENERALLY REMAINS UNCHANGED WITH A SEE TEXT ADDED FOR PORTIONS OF
SRN UT/N CNTRL AZ/W CNTRL CO.

AFTER COORDINATION WITH THE SW GACC AND EGB GACC /VIA SW GACC/
TRIMMED BACK SOME OF THE CRITICAL AREA IN NERN AZ AND ADDED A SEE
TEXT FOR PORTIONS OF N CNTRL AZ/SRN UT INTO WRN CO DUE TO FUEL
CONCERNS. WHILE METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS WILL MEET CRITICAL
THRESHOLDS ACROSS THE SEE TEXT AREA...FUELS REMAIN MAINLY
UNFAVORABLE FOR FIRES EXCEPT IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS WHERE GREEN-UP
STILL HAS NOT BEGUN. OVER THE LAST MONTH MUCH OF THIS AREA HAS SEEN
SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION AS WELL. THEREFORE AN ELEVATED
FIRE THREAT WILL EXIST FOR HIGHER ELEVATIONS WHILE LOWER ELEVATIONS
WILL BE UNFAVORABLE FOR WIND DRIVEN FIRES.

ELSEWHERE...PORTIONS OF THE SRN CA DESERTS INTO CNTRL AZ AND FAR NW
NM/SW CO WILL MEET METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS AS WELL AS FUEL
CONDITIONS. AFTER COORDINATION WITH WFO SGX...HAVE EXTENDED THE
CRITICAL AREA TO DESERT AREAS JUST DOWNWIND AND E OF THE MOUNTAINS
FROM SAN BERNARDINO TO SAN DIEGO COUNTIES. SWLY WINDS WILL ENHANCE
DOWNSLOPE FLOW AND CREATE STRONGER WINDS /GUSTS TO 35 MPH/ THAN
   INDICATED BY MODEL FORECASTS.

FURTHER S AND E ACROSS FAR SERN CA...SRN AZ AND MUCH OF NM...RH
VALUES WILL BE LOW WITH WARM TEMPERATURES BUT WIND SPEEDS WILL BE
LIGHTER AND CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN MORE MARGINAL...PRECLUDING A
   CRITICAL THREAT.

   ..STOPPKOTTE.. 05/20/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0330 AM CDT THU MAY 20 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL BEGIN TO AMPLIFY ACROSS THE WRN U.S. ON FRIDAY.
SWLY WINDS WILL INCREASE ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN AND FOUR CORNERS
AREA WHERE VERY DRY AIR WILL RESIDE RESULTING IN AREAS OF CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. TO THE E...SLY WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE
ACROSS THE CNTRL AND SRN HIGH PLAINS...BUT DEWPOINTS WILL BE ON THE
   RISE.

   ...SRN NV...SERN CA...NRN AZ...NWRN NM...
IT WILL BECOME QUITE WINDY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT FROM SRN CA INTO
THE GREAT BASIN BY MIDDAY FRIDAY. SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF 25-35 MPH
ARE EXPECTED WITH HIGHER GUSTS. VERY WARM TEMPERATURES WILL BRING RH
DOWN INTO THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS DESERTS TO LOWER TEENS ELSEWHERE.
THE HEART OF THE STRONGEST WINDS AND LOWEST RH WILL LIE FROM SAN
BERNARDINO COUNTY CA ACROSS LAS VEGAS AND INTO NRN AZ AND SRN UT.

FARTHER E...STRONG WIND GUSTS AND LOW RH WILL ALSO OCCUR OVER MUCH
OF NM. SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS WILL BE WEAKER HERE...NEAR 20-25 MPH
WITH HIGHER GUSTS AND LOW RH IN THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS AND TEENS.
THIS SHOULD RESULT IN AT LEAST A MARGINAL FIRE THREAT.
