.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0353 AM CDT FRI MAY 21 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A VIGOROUS UPPER TROUGH WILL DIG INTO THE SWRN U.S. TODAY...WHILE A
COLD FRONT PUSHES SWD ACROSS THE GREAT BASIN. SWLY WINDS WILL
INCREASE AHEAD OF THE FRONT ACROSS THE MOJAVE DESERT/SRN GREAT BASIN
AND INTO THE FOUR CORNERS REGION...COMBINING WITH A VERY DRY AIR
MASS TO CREATE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. WINDS WILL ALSO
INCREASE IN RESPONSE TO A LEE TROUGH OVER THE HIGH PLAINS...LEADING
TO AN ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER THREAT. ELSEWHERE...CONDITIONS WILL
REMAIN COOL OVER THE NW AND RATHER MOIST ACROSS MOST OF THE ERN HALF
   OF THE NATION.

...PORTIONS OF SE CA...SRN NV...NRN AZ...AND THE FOUR CORNERS
   REGION...
A DEEPENING SFC LOW OVER UT AND AN ADJACENT COLD FRONT WILL DEVELOP
AHEAD OF A STRONG PACIFIC UPPER TROUGH...LEADING TO SUSTAINED SWLY
WINDS OF 20-30 MPH AND GUSTS OVER 40 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON. STRONG
SFC HEATING WILL YIELD RH VALUES IN THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS TO LOWER
   TEENS.

ACROSS NRN AZ INTO THE FOUR CORNERS REGION...THE GREATEST THREAT FOR
WIND DRIVEN FIRES IS EXPECTED TO EXIST OVER HIGHER ELEVATION
AREAS...WHERE FUEL CONDITIONS ARE DRIER/MORE FAVORABLE FOR RAPID
FIRE GROWTH...PER PREVIOUS COORDINATION WITH LOCAL FORECAST OFFICES
AND REGIONAL GACCS. IN SERN CA...AN ENHANCED FIRE WEATHER THREAT
WILL EXTEND FROM THE WRN FRINGES OF THE IMPERIAL/COACHELLA VALLEYS
AND ERN FOOTHILLS OF THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAINS /WHERE DOWNSLOPE
WINDS AND DRY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED/ AND INTO THE MOJAVE DESERT. A
SFC COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE AREA LATE FRIDAY EVENING INTO
SATURDAY MORNING...BRINGING A NWLY WIND SHIFT.

   ...SERN UT...
SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WILL DEVELOP OVER SERN UT...WITH RH
VALUES DROPPING INTO THE LOW TEENS. FUEL CONDITIONS ARE UNFAVORABLE
FOR RAPID FIRE GROWTH...PRECLUDING A RISK AREA FROM BEING REQUIRED.

   ...NERN NM...
A LEE SFC TROUGH WILL DEVELOP OVER SERN CO...WHILE A WELL-MIXED
BOUNDARY LAYER DEVELOPS OVER ERN NM TO THE W OF A DRYLINE OVER THE
TX PANHANDLE. AS A RESULT...SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH AND
RH VALUES IN THE LOWER TEENS ARE FORECAST ACROSS NERN NM. MARGINAL
WIND SPEEDS WILL PRECLUDE A CRITICAL RISK AREA FROM BEING ISSUED.

THE NWRN AND WRN PORTIONS OF THE TX AND OK PANHANDLES. DESPITE
STRONG WINDS/LOW RH LIKELY DEVELOPING ACROSS THIS AREA SATURDAY

   ..SMITH.. 05/21/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0354 AM CDT FRI MAY 21 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL DEEPEN ACROSS THE WRN U.S. WHILE A BROAD UPPER
RIDGE ENCOMPASSES MOST OF THE ERN HALF OF THE NATION. STRONG WINDS
WILL DEVELOP OVER MUCH OF THE SW STATES INTO THE SRN HIGH
PLAINS...AND WILL CREATE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS AS A DRY
AIR MASS RESIDES OVER THE REGION. HIGHER HUMIDITY VALUES WILL LEAD
TO LOW FIRE WEATHER POTENTIAL E OF THE GREAT PLAINS.

...SRN MOJAVE DESERT...NRN/ERN AZ...MUCH OF NM...PORTIONS OF SWRN
   CO...
   A BELT OF STRONG MID-LEVEL WINDS /APPROXIMATELY 80 KTS AT 500 MB/
WILL EXTEND FROM SRN CA INTO THE NRN PLAINS...WITH WINDY CONDITIONS
DEVELOPING AT THE SFC ACROSS MUCH OF THE SW STATES. SUSTAINED SWLY
WINDS OF 20-30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS APPEAR LIKELY TO DEVELOP.
ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE COOLER ACROSS NRN AZ/NM AND SRN
CO...THE LOWER ATMOSPHERE WILL REMAIN SUFFICIENTLY DRY TO YIELD RH
VALUES IN THE LOW TEENS. OVER THE HIGH PLAINS OF ERN NM AND THE
DESERTS OF CNTRL/SRN NM...A DRY/WELL-MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER WILL YIELD
   SINGLE DIGIT RH VALUES.
