   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

   VALID 261700Z - 271200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

ONLY CHANGE IS TO INCLUDE FAR SWRN CO TO THE SEE TEXT DISCUSSION
BELOW. MODERATE SUSTAINED WINDS WITH GUSTS APPROACHING 35 MPH SEEM
PROBABLE ACCORDING TO RECENT MODEL OUTPUT.

   ..SMITH.. 05/26/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0211 AM CDT WED MAY 26 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A LARGE PACIFIC UPPER LOW WILL SHIFT S TOWARDS THE PAC NW COAST AS
DEEP-LAYER SWLY FLOW INCREASES ACROSS MUCH OF THE GREAT BASIN AND
SOUTHWEST. A BROAD UPPER RIDGE WILL ENCOMPASS MOST OF THE GREAT
PLAINS AND MIDWEST...WHILE AN OFFSHORE DISTURBANCE WILL RESULT IN
MOIST NELY FLOW ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHEAST.

   ...NRN AZ AND SRN UT...
WIND FIELDS WILL STRENGTHEN AS A MID/UPPER LEVEL JET MAX ROTATES
AROUND THE BASE OF A PACIFIC UPPER LOW AND NOSES INTO THE CNTRL CA
COAST. FORECAST MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATES SUSTAINED SWLY WINDS OF
15-20 MPH WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD THIS AFTERNOON WITHIN A TIGHTENING
PRESSURE GRADIENT...AS A WEAK SFC TROUGH DEVELOPS ACROSS THE GREAT
BASIN. DESPITE A DRY AIR MASS ALREADY IN PLACE...RATHER COOL
AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES /70S-80S ON THE DESERT FLOORS/ WILL ONLY
YIELD RH VALUES IN THE LOWER TO MID TEENS.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1246 PM CDT WED MAY 26 2010

   VALID 271200Z - 281200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

HAVE OPTED TO INCLUDE NRN LOWER MICH IN A SEE TEXT TO HIGHLIGHT
ENHANCED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER PARTS OF THE UPPER GREAT
LAKES. A MOSTLY SUNNY...DRY POST-FRONTAL AIRMASS WILL WARM
APPRECIABLY TO NEAR 80 DEG F. SUSTAINED NNWLY WINDS AROUND 15 MPH
/HIGHER GUSTS/ ARE PROBABLE OVER THE AREA. ELSEWHERE...FORECAST
REMAINS ON TRACK WITH NO OTHER CHANGES WARRANTED.

   ..SMITH.. 05/26/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0358 AM CDT WED MAY 26 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
A CLOSED PACIFIC UPPER LOW WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY SHIFT SWD
TOWARDS THE NRN CA COAST...WHILE AN UPPER RIDGE EXPANDS WWD OVER THE
GREAT PLAINS. ENHANCED MID/UPPER TROPOSPHERIC FLOW WILL EXIST
BETWEEN THESE TWO FEATURES OVER MUCH OF THE SOUTHWEST AND
INTER-MOUNTAIN WEST...RESULTING IN CRITICAL CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS
OF THE FOUR CORNERS AREA/SRN CO PLATEAU. LIGHT WINDS WILL EXIST
ACROSS MUCH OF THE ERN HALF OF THE COUNTRY WITH SFC HIGH PRESSURE
CENTERED OVER THE UPPER MS RIVER.

   ...NERN AZ...FAR SWRN CO...
A SFC PRESSURE TROUGH WILL DEVELOP OVER WY/NERN UT AHEAD OF AN
APPROACHING CLOSED UPPER LOW...RESULTING IN A TIGHTENING PRESSURE
GRADIENT AND INCREASING SFC WINDS. STEEPENING LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES
IN THE PRESENCE OF A DEEPENING BOUNDARY LAYER BENEATH STRONG
MID-LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL EFFICIENTLY TRANSPORT HIGHER MOMENTUM AIR
DOWN TO THE SFC. IN RESPONSE...SSWLY WINDS BECOMING SUSTAINED AROUND
20 MPH/ GUSTS TO 30-40 MPH/ ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY AFTERNOON.
STRONG HEATING WITHIN A VERY DRY AIR MASS WILL YIELD SINGLE DIGIT RH
VALUES. A COLD FRONT EXTENDING ACROSS CNTRL UT/AZ SHOULD LIMIT THE
WWD EXTENT OF THE RISK AREA...WHERE COOLER TEMPERATURES/MORE
   MARGINAL RH VALUES WILL EXIST.

   ...SERN UT...
SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS AROUND 20 MPH /GUSTS 30-40 MPH/ APPEAR LIKELY
TO DEVELOP IN THE AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION...STRONG HEATING SHOULD
YIELD RH VALUES DROPPING INTO THE UPPER SINGLE DIGITS/LOWER TEENS.
PER COORDINATION WITH LOCAL FORECAST OFFICES...FUEL CONDITIONS
APPEAR TO BE IN GREENUP...WHICH SHOULD REDUCE THE THREAT FOR WIND
   DRIVEN FIRES.
