   DAY 1 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   1131 AM CDT TUE JUN 08 2010

   VALID 081700Z - 091200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

NO CHANGE TO THE FORECAST IS NEEDED. DEW POINTS IN MUCH OF THE SEE
TEXT AREA ARE HIGHER THIS MORNING AS OF 16Z THAN MOST DETERMINISTIC
MODELS ARE INDICATING...THEREFORE RELATIVE HUMIDITIES HAVE NOT YET
DROPPED BELOW CRITICAL THRESHOLDS FOR A MAJORITY OF THE AREA. 12Z
SOUNDING AT FGZ INDICATES THIS MOISTURE IS VERY SHALLOW...AND AS
MIXING OCCURS EXPECT THAT DRIER AIR JUST ABOVE THE SURFACE WILL
ALLOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES TO PLUMMET THIS AFTERNOON. FORECAST WIND
   SPEEDS APPEAR ON TRACK.

   ..HURLBUT.. 06/08/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0250 AM CDT TUE JUN 08 2010/

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER LEVEL RIDGING WILL BUILD OVER THE NRN ROCKIES TODAY AS UPPER
LOW OFFSHORE BRITISH COLUMBIA MOVES TOWARD THE PAC NW. A SHORTWAVE
TROF ACROSS THE NRN/CNTRL PLAINS WILL MOVE EWD INTO THE UPPER
MIDWEST...RESULTING IN SLIGHT RIDGING OVER THE E. HOT AND DRY
CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE SWRN CONUS.

...SERN CA...SRN NV...NRN AZ AND SRN UT...
LOW LEVEL WLY FLOW WILL INCREASE IN RESPONSE TO A DEEPENING SFC LOW
NEAR LAS VEGAS AND STRENGTHENING MID LEVEL FLOW AS UPPER LOW MOVES
TOWARD THE PAC NW. WIND SPEEDS WILL BE GREATEST ACROSS SERN CA WHERE
DOWNSLOPE FLOW WILL ENHANCE SFC GUSTS. EXPECT SUSTAINED WINDS
GENERALLY AROUND 15 MPH WITH WIND GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH. HOT AND
PERSISTENTLY DRY CONDITIONS WILL COMBINE TO CREATE MARGINALLY
   CRITICAL CONDITIONS ACROSS THE REGION.

   DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0203 PM CDT TUE JUN 08 2010

   VALID 091200Z - 101200Z

   ...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

DETERMINISTIC AND ENSEMBLE FORECASTS ARE INDICATING AN AREA OF
SOMEWHAT STRONGER SURFACE WINDS OF 20 TO 25 MPH WILL DEVELOP ACROSS
NRN AZ/SRN UT DUE TO SURFACE LOW DEVELOPMENT IN THE LEE OF THE S
CNTRL MOUNTAINS OF UT AND STRENGTHENING WINDS ALOFT. STRONGER WINDS
WILL GUST TO THE SURFACE AS MIXING HEIGHTS RISE THROUGH THE DAY.
THEREFORE...HAVE UPGRADED A SMALL AREA TO CRITICAL. THE REMAINDER OF
THE FORECAST IS VALID...WITH MARGINAL CONDITIONS SURROUNDING THE
   CRITICAL.

   ...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER LOW WILL MOVE OVER THE PAC NW ON WEDNESDAY AND TRACK
EWD...CREATING A BROAD TROUGH ACROSS THE NRN GREAT BASIN INTO THE
NRN ROCKIES BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. UPPER RIDGE WILL PUSH EWD INTO
THE NRN PLAINS AS SHORTWAVE TROF DEVELOPS EWD INTO THE GREAT LAKES.

...SERN CA...SRN NV...SRN UT AND NRN AZ...
CONDITIONS WILL BE SIMILAR TO TUESDAY WITH A SLIGHT INCREASE IN MID
LEVEL WLY FLOW AS MAIN JET MAX EDGES CLOSER TO THE REGION. THE MAIN
UPPER LEVEL JET WILL REMAIN SOMEWHAT N OF THE REGION OF
DRIEST/WARMEST CONDITIONS FROM NRN/CNTRL CA INTO SRN ID.
HOWEVER...MIXED LAYERS TO AROUND 700 MB PROMOTING STRONG DOWNWARD
MOMENTUM TRANSPORT AND TERRAIN INDUCED GUSTY WINDS SHOULD RESULT IN
SUSTAINED WINDS AROUND 15 MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 30 MPH. COUPLED WITH
RH VALUES AROUND 10-15 PERCENT...MARGINALLY CRITICAL CONDITIONS ARE
   EXPECTED.
