   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0067
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0315 PM CST TUE FEB 04 2014

   AREAS AFFECTED...SRN LA AND MS

   CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

   VALID 042115Z - 042345Z

   PROBABILITY OF WATCH ISSUANCE...5 PERCENT

SUMMARY...A FEW NON-SEVERE ELEVATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED
ACROSS SRN LA INTO THE EVENING. A LESSER BUT MORE CONDITIONAL THREAT
OF A SEVERE STORM EXISTS WITH ANY ACTIVITY THAT MIGHT FORM UPSTREAM.

DISCUSSION...A SMALL CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS QUICKLY FORMED ALONG
THE WARM FRONT JUST OFFSHORE THE LA COAST...AND HAS QUICKLY MOVED
INLAND WHERE SURFACE TEMPS ARE COOL AND MORE STABLE. THESE STORMS
ARE ALSO FOCUSED ALONG A CONFLUENCE BAND THAT EXTENDS SWWD OVER THE
GULF. VISIBLE IMAGERY ALSO INDICATES ANOTHER AREA OF DEVELOPMENT
NEAR BUOY 42361 WHICH MAY EXTEND NWD LATER TODAY.

SHEAR PROFILES ARE CONDITIONALLY FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS...ALTHOUGH
THERMODYNAMICS ARE NOT OPTIMAL DUE TO BOTH WEAK LOW LEVEL LAPSE
RATES AND TOTAL CAPE. WHILE STORMS CROSSING N OF THE WARM FRONT ARE
NOT EXPECTED TO BE SEVERE...SOME SVR POTENTIAL COULD EXIST IF STORMS
CAN FORM UPSTREAM AND AHEAD OF THE PRIMARY COLD FRONT...THEN TRAVEL
NWD ACROSS COASTAL LA WHERE DEWPOINTS WILL GRADUALLY BE RISING. IF
THIS OCCURS...A BRIEF WINDOW COULD EXIST FOR A WIND/TOR THREAT
BEFORE LOW LEVEL WINDS VEER...BUT POTENTIAL APPEARS LOW AT THIS
   TIME.
