   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0084
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0129 PM CST TUE FEB 11 2014

AREAS AFFECTED...NE TX...NRN LA AND SRN AR

   CONCERNING...WINTER MIXED PRECIPITATION

   VALID 111929Z - 120130Z

SUMMARY...A MIX OF FREEZING AND SLEET WILL LIKELY DEVELOP ACROSS NE
TX AS SFC TEMPS DROP LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE PRECIPITATION IS
EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE...SPREADING EWD ACROSS NRN LA AND
SRN AR. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TENTH OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE IN
NE TX WHERE SFC TEMPS CAN DROP TO FREEZING. THE MORE SIGNIFICANT
ICING SHOULD OCCUR FURTHER TO THE EAST IN NRN LA AND SRN AR WHERE UP
TO A QUARTER INCH OF ICING MAY OCCUR BY EARLY EVENING..

DISCUSSION...THE LATEST WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS AN UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH OVER WEST TX WITH A LEAD SHORTWAVE TROUGH ANALYZED AT 700 MB
ACROSS CNTRL TX. JUST TO THE EAST OF THE LEAD TROUGH...A LOW TO
MID-LEVEL SPEED MAX IS ANALYZED IN EAST TX. THIS IS HELPING TO
ENHANCE LIFT ACROSS MUCH OF NCNTRL AND NE TX WHERE A SWATH OF
PRECIPITATION APPEARS TO BE INCREASING IN COVERAGE. AT THE
SFC...TEMPS FROM THE DALLAS METRO SEWD ARE NEAR OR JUST ABOVE
FREEZING. TEMPS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP LATE THIS AFTERNOON AFTER PEAK
HEATING. THIS COMBINED WITH WET-BULBING ASSOCIATED WITH THE
PRECIPITATION SHOULD RESULT IN FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET ACROSS PARTS
OF NE TX. ICE ACCUMULATION OF A TENTH OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE IN
AREAS WHERE SFC TEMPS CAN DROP TO FREEZING.

FURTHER TO THE EAST ACROSS NRN LA AND SRN AR...SFC TEMPS ARE
GENERALLY AT OR BELOW FREEZING. FORECAST SOUNDINGS IN NRN LA LATE
THIS AFTERNOON SHOW A WARM NOSE JUST ABOVE 850 MB. THIS ALONG WITH
INCREASING PRECIPITATION RATES SHOULD RESULT IN AREAS OF MODERATE
FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ICING IS EXPECTED FROM
THE VICINITY OF SHREVEPORT EWD TOWARD THE MS RIVER WHERE ONE TO TWO
TENTHS OF AN INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE BY EARLY
   EVENING.
