   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0490
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0617 AM CDT WED APR 30 2014

   AREAS AFFECTED...THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE

   CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 120...

   VALID 301117Z - 301245Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 120 CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...WW 120 MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED LOCALLY FOR AN HOUR OR SO
ALONG PORTIONS OF FLORIDA PANHANDLE COASTAL AREAS...EAST OF PANAMA
CITY THROUGH THE BIG BEND REGION. OTHERWISE...A NEW WW DOES NOT
   APPEAR TO BE NEEDED.

DISCUSSION...MUCH OF THE FORWARD PROPAGATING PORTION OF THE ONGOING
CONVECTIVE SYSTEM HAS WEAKENED CONSIDERABLY DURING THE PAST HOUR OR
SO. HOWEVER...INTENSE CONVECTION DOES PERSIST...NEAR THE
INTERSECTION OF THE QUASI-STATIONARY PORTION OF THE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY
NEAR WESTERN PANHANDLE COASTAL AREAS...AND A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH
EXTENDING SOUTHWARD INTO THE NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO. THIS
LATTER BOUNDARY APPEARS TO BE SLOWLY ACCELERATING EASTWARD.

ANOTHER LOWER/MID TROPOSPHERIC CIRCULATION CENTER DOES APPEAR TO BE
STRENGTHENING JUST AHEAD OF THE BOUNDARY INTERSECTION NEAR PANAMA
CITY...AS REFLECTED BY THE RECENT EVOLUTION OF A LINE ECHO WAVE
PATTERN IN RADAR IMAGERY. THIS COULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A CONTINUED
RISK FOR SEVERE WIND GUSTS AND/OR AN ISOLATED TORNADO AS IT TRACKS
INLAND...AND EASTWARD ACROSS THE FLORIDA BIG BEND REGION THROUGH
   12-13Z.
