   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0057
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0424 AM CST WED FEB 04 2015

   AREAS AFFECTED...PORTIONS OF CNTRL/SRN NEB

   CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

   VALID 041024Z - 041430Z

SUMMARY...SNOWFALL RATES LOCALLY TO 1 INCH PER HOUR WILL BE
MAINTAINED WITHIN A SNOW BAND ACROSS CNTRL/SRN NEB EARLY THIS
   MORNING...WHICH SHOULD SLOWLY TRANSLATE ESEWD.

DISCUSSION...MOSAIC RADAR IMAGERY DEPICTS AN WNW/ESE-ORIENTED BAND
OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW -- AS CORROBORATED WITH RECENT SFC
OBSERVATIONS. THIS ACTIVITY IS COLLOCATED WITH ENHANCED 700-MB
FRONTOGENESIS THAT ACCOMPANIES A MIDLEVEL SHORTWAVE IMPULSE CROSSING
PORTIONS OF THE CNTRL PLAINS PER WATER VAPOR LOOPS. COMPOSITE RADAR
IMAGERY SUGGESTS THAT THE BAND IS GRADUALLY TRANSLATING ESEWD TOWARD
THE MID-MO VALLEY...AND THIS GENERAL TREND WILL CONTINUE DURING THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS OWING TO THE PROGRESSION OF THE IMPULSE. RAP
FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST THAT RELATIVELY DEEP DENDRITIC GROWTH
ZONES LOCATED WITHIN THE H7-H5 LAYER WILL BE PRESENT...SUPPORTING
SNOWFALL RATES LOCALLY TO 1 INCH PER HOUR THIS MORNING -- WITH RATES
TAPERING OFF FROM WNW TO ESE THROUGH THE MORNING.
