   MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0258
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
   0849 PM CDT WED MAR 23 2016

   AREAS AFFECTED...EASTERN OK...NORTHWEST AR...FAR SW MO

   CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 52...

   VALID 240149Z - 240245Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 52
   CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...LARGE HAIL AND STRONG WINDS CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE ACROSS
THE WATCH AREA. A COUPLE OF STRONGER STORMS MAY TRACK INTO SOUTHWEST
MO...BUT A NEW WATCH IS NOT EXPECTED ACROSS THAT AREA.

DISCUSSION...SCATTERED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO TO
PROGRESS NORTHEAST THIS EVENING. INSTABILITY WANES WITH NORTHWARD
EXTENT FROM NORTHEAST OK INTO FAR SOUTHWEST MO. HOWEVER...00Z RAOB
FROM SGF SHOWS STEEP LAPSE RATES...AND A MARGINAL HAIL/WIND THREAT
SHOULD EXTEND NORTH OF THE WATCH ACROSS A NARROW CORRIDOR IN
SOUTHWEST MO. A NEW WATCH IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME ACROSS
SOUTHWEST MO GIVEN THE LIMITED AREAL EXTENT AND MARGINAL NATURE OF
THE THREAT. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE WATCH AREA...CLUSTERS OF STORMS
WILL CONTINUE TO POSE A LARGE HAIL AND WIND THREAT AND A TRANSITION
TO BOWING/LINEAR SEGMENTS IS EXPECTED. WHILE THE TORNADO THREAT
CONTINUES TO BE MARGINAL...ONE CAN NOT BE RULED OUT.
