NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...northern GA...upstate SC and western NC

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 262...

   Valid 241902Z - 242030Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 262 continues.

SUMMARY...The tornado threat is quickly diminishing across the
western portions of WW 262. A threat will continue further east
across the watch area from northeast GA into the western Carolinas.

DISCUSSION...The tornado threat is quickly decreasing across
portions of northern GA. Convection in this areas has largely been
weakening over the last couple of hours. The vort max which earlier
supported strong to severe convection has continued to lift north of
this region and low level flow continues to veer with the approach
of a surface low and cold front. While some gusty winds may still be
possible with convection in this area, the overall threat appears to
be rapidly diminishing. The greater tornado threat is expected to
shift east-northeast from far northeast GA into the western
   Carolinas.

Across eastern portions of the watch area, southeasterly low level
flow continues to maintain rich boundary layer moisture ahead of the
surface cold front and to the south of a warm front draped across
the NC Piedmont. Regional VAD wind profiles continue to show
favorable low-level hodographs supportive of rotation, and a tornado
threat will continue across this area.
