   Mesoscale Discussion 0884
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0907 PM CDT Sat May 27 2017

Areas affected...northeastern TX Panhandle...northwest and far
   western OK

   Concerning...Severe potential...Severe Thunderstorm Watch likely

   Valid 280207Z - 280300Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent

SUMMARY...A severe hail and severe gust risk will likely continue
southeastward into parts of northwest and far western Oklahoma.

DISCUSSION...Radar imagery (9-km CAPPI, MRMS MESH) shows intense
discrete storms over the OK and TX Panhandles moving southeast.
These storms will exit the southeastern portion of severe
thunderstorm watch #281 during the next 1-2 hours. Water-vapor
imagery shows a potent shortwave trough moving southeast across the
Sangre de Cristos and into the south-central High Plains. The
appreciable mid- to upper-level forcing for ascent will likely aid
in the storms longevity given favorable shear/buoyancy in place to
the north of a surface front. A measured 68 mph gust was recorded
at the Hooker, OK mesonet at 0150Z. Severe hail and severe gusts
will likely accompany these storms for the next couple of hours and
a new severe thunderstorm watch will probably be considered for
portions of far western and northwestern OK in an hour or so.
